Location: Southeastern Idaho | Do any of you have experience with or know what kind of deals are made with competitors on mounts? I am just curious about this as I listen to the commentary by Joe Beaver. LOVE that sorrel gelding Cody Ohl is riding...wow! Clint Cooper doesn't own Sweetness, I am sure there are a number of others as well. I am familiar with doggers using each others' horses and the 25% mount money during the year but not sure what kinds of deals are made with calf ropers and barrel racers (I realize special deals are probably made at the NFR due to the amount of money up for grabs...just curious as to what those are.) :) |

Pretty good investment if you get a Cooper or Ohl on your calf horse. :) If I had the money it would be fun to have a stable of top horses and go watch them perform. |

Steer wrestling teams usually get 25%
12.5% steer wrestling horse
12.5% hazing/hazer
Of course, there are always different deals made, which is why I said "usually". |

| Friend of mine let her horse be ridden at the NFR inthe barrel race few years ago. THe contestant paid a flat fee per run plus a percentage of the winnings. |

| Super cool post that I've thought about but never thought to post! What do you think the deal for the barrel racers is? It must make the owners horse worth all that much more. How exciting and cool!
And what if they take them but don't end up using themm

There are a couple of guys that all they did was just "haul" steer wrestling teams of horses to the rodeos....they sometimes haze but they make their money mounting cowboys. |

Location: Southeastern Idaho | Excellent info. My ex bro in law was a pro steer wrestler so I am a little more familiar with borrowing and loaning horses but the ropers really surprise me. Naive of me I know, I used to think we all made and owned our own. |

| Can you imagine mounting someone for the barrel racing this year with a horse and that horrible ground?
I would have to seriously consider pulling the horse if all I was going to get is a %. But then I guess that's what contracts are for. Sit and cringe. |

I thought Clint and Tuff's Dad owned Sweetness ...? Or did I mistake that one ... Didn't Tuff run Sweetness at the NFR too?

| I knew someone who had a pro talking to them about borrowing their horse to run at the NFR last year to run barrels. If she had borrowed the horse, she was going to 'lease it' from them and insure the horse before taking it to the NFR just incase anything happened. Not sure if they talked about splitting winnings or not. |
