| I've recently been prescribed Xarelto for a pulmonary embolism and was wondering if anyone else that barrel races is taking it and still riding and competing like normal. They keep telling me to be careful because if I hit my head my brain could bleed & I'd be dead by the time I got help. This freaks me out but I can't imagine life without barrel racing. If my tests come back positive for a genetic blood clotting disorder then I'll have to take this medication for life. At least I'm alive as I almost wasn't. |

Location: a secret | I dont take Xarleto but have had family that do... although better than coumadin it does have serious side effects that youhave to be aware of. |

Location: Living in my Promised Land | My BIL just had a blood vessel break in hi leg from Carleton. He didn't even bump it. It is a very dangerous drug. Dr took him off of it. |

Location: Four Corners Colorado | Look into Nattokinase for blood clots and do some research. My friend who has heart problems takes it instead of warifin(sp) and has his doctors appoval. They test his blood to make sure it is working and it has been working as well as the warifin without the side effects. |

| My doctor said that it would be either factor 5 or factor 7. Still waiting for test results. I have a family member who has a prothrombin mutation but doesn't know if he has one of those factors. He doesn't remember hearing about them.
I should probably wear a helmet even if I don't have to stay on these meds. |

You know living life is a risk. Do what you can to help yourself be as safe as you can. Like wearing shin guards, as hitting a barrel will most likely be something you would do that could cause bleeding or clots. You could wear a helmet too. But realistically, you could get in a car accident just as easily as a horse accident. Will you stop driving a car? Or wear a helmet everywhere you go? Here is something i read recently that I loved.

Be willing to step out of your comfort zone. Take a risk and go out on a limb with Me. If that is where I am leading you, then out on that limb is the safest place for you to be.
You want to play it safe, avoid all the risks you can. But taking risks is part of living close to Me. Trying to live a risk-free life tells Me that you don’t really trust Me. You have to make a choice: Will you keep trying to be safe at all costs? Or will you follow Me with all your heart?
I may ask you to stand up for someone who can’t stand up for himself, to say no to a friend, or to tell a stranger about Me. But I’ll give you the strength and the courage to do it.
Life with Me is an adventure. If you stick with Me, you’ll not only have My protection, but you’ll learn to relax and enjoy the adventure. So be willing to follow wherever I lead—even out on a limb.

| I am currently on Coumadin for life long since I was 15 years old. I was diagnosed with a DVT and had found out that I have obstructed arteries and had to receive stints. It was found that I have factor 5 and proteins C deficiency. I still ride, I more trail ride and ride for fun. I am fearful of falling off or something happening but if I feel that a situation ain't safe then I try to attempt it in a way where I could be more safe. I trust Coumadin more than xarelto because I know there is a way to reverse it. I hate the way that these blood thinners make me fearful of everyday life, I mean I can't even climb a ladder without getting scolded. I was depressed when I was first diagnosed because I thought my life was over and I wouldn't be able to do the things I love, but I did realize that I could still do the things I love and still live a normal life. I hope you can still find a way to barrel race without the fear of getting hurt, even if they do look silly, wearing a helmet could make you feel more safe, which is the most important!  |

| Well I was diagnosed with factor 5 after my grandma found out at 63. I was told I don't need to be on a blood toner at this time but they do recommend I get a medical bracelet in the event I was in an accident. |
