	anyone have horses that act like they aren't interested in eating?? I've got a mare and gelding, niter are by ANY means under weight. but here lately when i let them in to feed in the morning they look at the feed and turn away. I haven't switched feeds or anything like that. And they eat there feed it just takes hours and they don't always "clean there bowls".. im prob just making a big deal out of nothing but anyone else have this happen?? i get worried when my guys don't want to eat anything. :(

Twin Sister to Queen Boobie Posts: 13315 Location: East Tennessee but who knows?!	I would look at the feed really close. Even if it's not molded there may be something else wrong with it. I'd try some different feed and see if they're interested in it.

	Ive looked throughout the feed and feed bags and no mold or anything. they've been on this feed for a long time now. I've never had a problem with them not eating. I'm assuming maybe its because I'm not riding them?? I've been giving them the month off. do you think that could be it? should i try an cut back on the feed?

I have had and seen horses refuse to eat feed that looked as though nothing was wrong with it and it turned out to be a bad run of feed. The only time I've had one go off of feed other than that is if they were sick, had ulcers, or they were thirsty.

The Advice Guru Posts: 6419	I second the ulcers. I have one mare that will go off of grain/pelleted feed completely when she has ulcers. She develops ulcers from being stalled for a period of time.

DO you have a de-icer in the tank? If so check for a short. Make sure they are drinking. Ulcers are possible...but I'd have to wonder why two horses not working would develop ulcers that badly at the same time. Are they eating hay?

Expert Posts: 2013 Location: Piedmont, OK	It could be ulcers but if your area is having sudden weather changes some times that may cause them to eat or drink less too
