Location: Missouri | So I was browsing old boxes the other day and stumbled on some old pictures of the days before barrel horses. So being that I got a good laugh I thought I would share. Who else has pictures of the old days before barrel horses?!

Location: British Columbia | I did a lot of jumping, mostly cross country when I was young at a barn in Northern, ON. I didn't really care for the falling off out in an open field or being scraped off on jumps when a horse would balk so my parents changed coaches and I ended up at a barn that taught barrels. |

Location: In the land of peanuts and cotton | I came from roping and cutting/Team Penning. Also rodeo pageants. I didn't get a real barrel horse until i was 15. If I ever quit running barrels I would go back to my original cutting and penning roots. Nothing beats riding a good cutting horse.

Location: North Dakota | Sadly I don't have a single picture on my computer/phone. I started out in huntseat, then went on to do some western pleasure, dressage, and more hunters, then barrels and now it's more mounted shooting than barrels.
ETA: I can't believe I forgot! I spent a few years at the track. Not riding (considering I was too inexperienced and too tall to be a jockey since I was in elementary school) but helped my dad's friend who trained race horses (including mine).

Location: NC | I didn't get my first horse until I was 21 years old. She was a red grade mare and I was tickled to death just to have a horse! She's teaching someone else to ride now. I moved on to an actual barrel horse last year. (A slow barrel horse but a barrel horse none the less)
I 'come' from the land of no horses. I worked and clawed my way to being able to have just one. At one point I owned several. And now I'm down to two. It's been a fun 6 years in the horse world. I started as a clueless just for fun trail rider. Now I'm a clueless just for fun weekend warrior barrel racer. And it's still fun. :)
Neat post. |

Location: London Ontario | I also come from the land of no horses, AKA the City!!! My dad always said "Dads don't buy horses husbands do!!!". I was however very lucky to have parents who supported my riding lessons and shows. I also am very lucky to have had people in my life who mounted me on their own horses most of my life. I started out in the Western and English performance world(Reining, roping, WP, HUS etc) I did just about every class(although I hated trail and showmanship) here are two photos from my highschool days(not all that long ago LOL). While I always did barrel race and run poles I never soley did them. I would have one or two perf. horses and a barrel horse.

 Own It and Move On
Location: The edge of no where | Riding like a wild indian on the ranch and hunter/jumpers. I got tired of only getting trophies and no $$$$, so I swapped to running barrels. The top horse I showed in both hunters, he would go slow and look pretty....then change bridles, slap some boots on him and run around the jumper ring. He was 14.3 and had a huge heart.

Location: the other T-town, Oklahoma | I don't have a pic to post, but I didn't get my first horse until I was 17! Until then I shot competative archery tournaments and still hold a Upper Penninsula of Michigan state record from when I was 8 years old, that was 30 years ago and my record still holds! |
