We are going to make it happen and go next year. While it is fresh in your minds or if you have gone before...please answer a few questions for my oh-so-scientific survey! :
- Where did you stay and did it meet expectations?
-What rounds do you recommend getting tickets for if you can only do 2? and why?
-Where do you recommend buying the tickets to get good seats (we are gonna do it up as right as we can)
-WHEN do you recommend booking hotel and buying those tickets?
-What do you wish you had known before you went?
Thank you so so much!! I've wanted to see it in person for-ev-ah!! So we really want to set ourselves up for fun! (I'm a planner...if we get the main things nailed down like hotel and tickets...I can relax!) |

Where did you stay and did it meet expectations? we stay someplace different every year - harrahs, quad(now linq) flamingo, excalibur, four queens....we prefer the strip
What rounds do you recommend getting tickets for if you can only do 2? and why? we dont go to the rodeo perfs anymore, we watch it in a lounge, its cheaper...good seats are gonna cost you, you should start looking for rodeo tickets in jan
-WHEN do you recommend booking hotel and buying those tickets?
we will book our flight and hotel in mar or april
as to what perfs to go to 9 and 10...imo

Location: Prosser, WA | I've stayed at the Tropicana, Monte Carlo, Southpoint, The Orleans, Excalibur, LVH which is now Westgate and also the LA Quinta. I liked all except the LA Quinta. The LVH was really nice because you can walk right down to Cowboy Christmas. Southpoint is really nice because the go around buckle ceremony is there and a lot of other activities are there. You can book your rooms anytime even the day you get there. We used to worry about it and book them in June. The last two years we have just drove down there and went to the hotel of our choice.Any night at the rodeo is good. The rodeo tickets are a little cheaper on the weekdays. |

Location: North Dakota | This was my first year to the NFR and Las Vegas. WE stayed at the MGM and IMO, I don't think I will ever stay there again. I would imagine most of the hotels on the strip are big BUT, you will easily put on a couple miles just looking for breakfast! Drinks are $11! Bottled beer 7 or 8. If you stay on the strip the walgreens has cheap booze and you can carry it wherever you go :) The live feed at the MGM is in a theater and very comfy but you have to stand in line to get a ticket to get seats. Lots of time wasted there. I would highly recommend walking the strip some night, it was beautiful and we only saw 1/8 of it :)
We went to all of the trade shows, the Sands was big and lots of stuff, I don't think we would go back to the convention center and I wished we would have had another day at the South Point. If you think you're going to find great deals, probably not BUT you can put your hands on things you normally wouldn't be able to touch.
If I were to go back, for the NFR I would stay at the South Point and take a cab to the strip one night. The hotel was made for cowboys, there is a viewing room for the rodeo every night, they even supply some snacks. There is events going on in the equestrian center all day long with comfy seats and a bar close if you want to just chill out for awhile and the trade show was the BEST I had been to this year. (but keep in mind we rope at our house too) The buckle presentation is something everyone should go see and I would go everynight if I could. you get the "family" aspect of each of the competitors and a little bit of their real personality.
We bought tickets for the 6th round (YAY Britany Diaz won) we were about 20 seats up from the bucking chutes and second barrel, they were worth the $262 each, we bought through ticket city which was cheaper than the trading group at the Convention Center by about $100. It was a once in a lifetime experience for me BUT being the weirdo I am, I expected to hear Joe B commentate at the rodeo and he isn't involved there at all OR on the live feed.
If I forgot something, just ask! I am financially frugal (aka cheap) and we won't be going very often but I would like to go to Vegas sometime when the rodeo isn't around, because there is so many things Vegas has to offer. |

Location: Bandera, TX | We always stay at the Excalibur - we get a room in the "newer" tower as they are nicer. It is centrally located and cheap. We watch the perfs from one of the many bars. I visit all the different shopping venues while my SO gambles. This year we splurged on some really great food. That was a highlight this time.
We usually book in August. |

I will say that seeing the performance in person is what the main goal is for us. Everything else is secondary. It will be worth it to us to get decent seats like LMS mentioned. Our trip will be centered around that. We want to be sure we don't miss the timing to get good seats. Maybe if we go back again that will change...but this is our first trip and that's the focus. We aren't big shoppers or party folks really. But will brave the crowds to see the trade shows too I suppose.
I need to research and look at maps...is there a hotel convenient to the T&M? or are all a taxi or shuttle ride away? We don't care about the strip though we will likely make a trip there to see for fun. The shopping is secondary too but we will no doubt hit some of that also. Love the idea of seeing the buckle ceremonies too.

The Hard Rock is right near the T&M.
If you go to NFRexperience.com, it will show you all of the host hotels. Each of these hotels should have a free shuttle service to the T&M. Lots of info on that site. |

Location: North Dakota | There are shuttles to and from the T&M from the MGM and South Point. The line at the MGM was loong so we opted for a cab which ended up costing us quite a bit and then we took the south point shuttle to the buckle ceremony. I think you would like the South Point a lot, you will see a lot of the cowboys after the buckle presentation and there is lots to do there, I saw more of the rodeo cowboys 1 night there than I did at the MGM the other 3 days, but you will run into them wherever you go. I just googled for tickets when we got down there and we definitely took our chances at getting good seats, but I think its possible during the week, we were offered tickets a couple of the nights we were at the MGM but the number of tickets they had didn't match up with the number of people in our party. Keep asking questions, someone around here might be able to get you one heck of a deal. I honestly think the next time I go I will be as close to the dirt as possible :) And splurge on those tickets, it was great!
I would like to see the Silverton too, I heard good things about that place! |

uh...did anyone see the Wedding Chapel they had set up there at the Fan Fest?...we have this long standing joke that if we ever get married it should be in Vegas at the NFR...I was picturing an Elvis impersonator for the purpose of the joke...but when we saw that you could get hitched at the NFR itself basically...we both laughed! |

Location: Its Freaking Freezing Up Here... | We have stayed at MGM, Planet Hollywood and this time was at Treasure Island. MGM has been my favorite so far. If you are NOT a smoker, I would not recommend Treasure Island. I developed a smokers cough that has lasted a week since I came home. With it being older, and lower ceilings, the smoke is far worse then a newer hotel. I found we were at MGM (for the rodeo showing, NRS ect) far more then any other hotel. I would either stay there again, or a hotel closer to there.
I would also say rounds 9 and 10. We have never had good tickets, as we've never planned far enough ahead to start looking, but it is definatley worth the money to have lower Plaza seats.
There is so much to see, 3 or 4 days isn't enough. We basically shopped this trip. South Point is worth the trip. We took the Deuce (the bus) to the South outlet mall and caught a cab to south point from there. So it only cost us about a $10 ride as opposed to $35 to go from the strip. |

1 time at Luxor, pyramid, not that great of a hotel, wasn't impressed with rooms at all for the price.
1 time at the Orleans and it was great price but far from everything, much like South Point.
Honestly, I would stay off the strip, rent a car and drive to the places you wanna go, or park and walk.
Taxi is expensive, tram is expensive, and walking everywhere gets old fast.
Food is expensive and not good.
I would eat off the strip and save money for rodeo tickets or for shopping.
The sands has the best shopping, then the NRS at MGM, South Point, Mandalay Bay, and then the Convention center.
Most places have all the same things just different names or prices. The shopping can be overwhelming but fun. I don't ever buy anything because of the prices but love looking and if I can find a deal or something I can't get anywhere else I will buy.
Fan fest is fun and there is always something going on. That is in the convention center.
I would go to one round and then watch the rest in the hotels...better viewing areas like everyone has said.
Also as far as packing...pack and extra bag just for shopping. You will buy stuff and then you will have to try and squeeze it into your luggage to get home.
I am going out next year to be a flag girl for all 10 rounds and I am so excited. I know we will be busy all 12 days we are there but it is such an honor to be able to do it. Hope to see ya there!  |

| We have stayed at Bally's twice, Excalibur and South Point in years past. Our preference is South Point. We rent a car and drive wherever we want to go. It's way cheaper than paying for a taxi and Vegas is really easy to get around. We shop at every Convention possible out there. LOL! We shop until we drop and then go some more. We book hotels in April and book flights at the end of October. They are usually cheaper then. You'll love it! We enjoy going to the perfs rather than watching it on the Live feeds. |

| I've been there twice - once as MRSD Lady-in-Waiting and once as MRSD to compete at the MRA pageant!
We stayed at the MGM both times. I thought the rooms were very nice, and it was great that the monorail stopped there. If I were to go back I'd probably stay at the Excalibur - very close to the MGM and cheaper! The live feed at the MGM Theater is awesome, and the shuttle to the T & M is really convenient. If you do decide to stay at the MGM, get ahold of a copy of the PSN late summer/early fall and there is usually an ad with special NFR rates. MRA also posts special rates for both the MGM and the Excalibur at missrodeoamerica.com around that time.
I would also love to stay at the South Point. The only drawback there is it's a little more out of the way if you're wanting the experience of the Strip, but if you're looking for something away from there it's perfect! There's tons of events there throughout the week - the bucking stock sale, permit challenge, etc. I've been there for the NBHA Super Show once and it's an absolutely beautiful facility.
I would agree with whoever said the Treasure Island is really smoky. I've never stayed there, but have gone to Gilley's to listen to a friend's band play while we were there, and I could tell the next day! If you're looking for a fun night and like to dance (not club-style dance, but jitterbug/two step) I would definitely go on a night that Chancey Williams & the Younger Brothers Band is playing.
The shopping is awesome. If you're hoping for deals I would go the last weekend, as the vendors don't want to haul EVERYTHING back with them - but keep in mind some things will be starting to get rather picked over.
Also agree with whoever mentioned buying cheap booze at Walgreen's and keeping it in your room. You can take it anywhere on the strip! I would also grab some food there as well. I always at least kept a granola bar in my purse, because I was not about to pay $10+ every time I got a little hungry! If I were to go back, I'd keep stuff to make sandwiches in the room and breakfast as well. I'd rather spend my money on other things. That being said, it was fun to treat ourselves to a few meals that were unlike anything we could find at home - usually did that for supper.
As far as the rodeo goes, the plaza seats are totally worth it. The balcony seats definitely aren't bad, but if your main focus is getting to see the actual rodeo, the plaza seats will put you right in the middle of it!
When the rodeo gets out, the lines for the shuttles/taxis are an absolute nightmare. We would go back to the Pavilion area and hang out back there. They always have a band playing back there after the rodeo, and a bar set up as well as a dance floor.
The buckle ceremony at the South Point is awesome - I would definitely recommend going! |

- Where did you stay and did it meet expectations? MGM Grand and yes, it met my expecations. It was kinda centrally located, but next time I think that I will stay up the strip a little bit more. Like the Venetian or Mirage. It was a wonderful hotel, don't get me wrong, but I felt like we could have cut some travel time out (travelling to the trade shows) and been more apt to see the Bellagio fountations and Mirage volcano. Once we got to our room at night and thought about how long of a walk we'd have to make we wound up staying in the room and just exploring the MGM Grand.
-What rounds do you recommend getting tickets for if you can only do 2? and why? We went to rounds 6&7. We chose those two because we got there the day of the 5th round and wanted the night "off" and we didn't want to pay the high prices for the rooms on the weekend. I would probably like to go 9&10 next year if I save my money up.
-Where do you recommend buying the tickets to get good seats (we are gonna do it up as right as we can). We got our tickets from a friend of my best friend. Her family has a four pack of season tickets (balcony, so not the best of seats... but we still got to see everything!). We lucked out, so I'm of no help to you!
-WHEN do you recommend booking hotel and buying those tickets? We called dibs on the tickets as soon as we found out that they weren't going to use them this year. We booked our hotel the end of August, but you might be able to get a Black Friday deal. I think the Mirage offered one.
-What do you wish you had known before you went? That I was going to be spending all my time in the trade shows and not really get to see Vegas attractions. I wanted to see the Bellagio chocolate fountain, water fountain show, Mirage volcano, Freemont street, and lots of other things that I just didn't get to do because shopping was the 1st priority for us (three women!).
I put my name on the season ticket wait list (not sure if that will ever go thru... but I'd love for it to!!) and I have full intentions of trying to go next year, but for longer period of time. If you are wanting to do trade shows then be sure and go thru the lists of vendors and try to plan out who and what to see each day. 3 days just wasn't enough for us to do much more than shop.
I was really impressed with all the meals that we ate... everything was top notch and there was nothing I could say that they would need to improve on.
The Venetian was beautiful. We spent some time walking thru there looking for an Apple store (one of the girl's phone was messed up) and I could easily take a day just going thru the upscale shopping there and at Caesars Palace.... but that's not why we were there!! |
