It all depends on the dam's side of the pedigree and the conformation/mind/etc. of the indiviudal

I would say it depends on a bunch of factors, but short answer - they are succesful at selling for 20k. Look at the DTF or ASOF young ones selling.

Seems that the prices of horses for sale in general has gone sky high recently.  The young ones with famous bloodlines are especially high.  They are certainly out of my price range lol.

Β You have to have a red hot sire and a super nice mare. Then you can get bigger prices. But you also have more costs in your stud fee.

For myself? I will never buy a "prospest" for that much. A proven horse is one thing, but a prospect is a prospect.

However, I know there are plenty of people willing to pay that for a young one. As it comes with selling horses, it's not so much if the horse is worth it, but if there is someone willing to pay the price.

Check out Fulton and Myers' sales results from the past couple years. I do have a friend that purchases young horses from those sales, trains them, then points them to futurities, and only then is she able to really make money on that deal (but of course, she's been really particular on the colts she's purchased, i.e. a STRONG dam's side and eye appeal doesn't hurt.)

Myers and Fultons definitely have respectable prices at their sale for prospects. However, I always keep in mind you're also buying a horse with their name/brand. I purchased a FG daughter at Myers sale, but she came from a consigner. She didn't bring what the FGs were bringing that Myers were offering. Which was why I was able to buy her, so I am fine with that.

ETA: Kristie Peterson/Jordon Briggs consigned "Frenchmans Future" in 2013. He brought $16,500 but they no saled him. He just won the BFA Juvenile =)

Those 20k yearling to 2 yr old prices are for colts that are out of PROVEN (broodmare or arena) mares.

Or are exceptionally well looking individuals that are out of a name brand sire that got into the right hands, will demo well, and do well on a vet check.

I wouldn't consider Dash for Perks or Sail on Bunny demanding prices to be ones to breed to if I was wanting to ensure a large price tag for a young horse. Some will flame for that but its the truth. I just can't think of any of their weanlings-2yrs bringing those prices. Dash for Perks might on the 2 yr olds.

That ASF went that high at the sale because everything that mare has put on the ground has been a winner.

I wouldn't spend that much money on a horse (especially a colt) even if I was given the money to do so.

Pretty successful IF they are out of a really good, proven mare (either in arena or broodmare). The A Streak Of Fling that just sold for so much was out of Pie Sky Promises. She has produced 3 horses with $100K in earning plus a track money earner. She was a good barrel horse herself and her dam (Joyous Bugs) is also a Blue Hen producer if I'm not mistaken. So there was some mare power behind that price tag. The second high selling horse at the BFA was by DTF but out of a 3/4 sister to Scoti Flit Bar. So it's not just that these horses are by a certain stallion. There are lots of DTFs and FGs that are certainly not worth the price tags thrown on them but people think "Oh he's a DTF he must be worth a lot". Not if he's out of Suzy the walkaloosa (unless Suzy has managed to produce some 1D running horses already!). IMO, it's not the sire, but the mare that brings the big price tag.

He wouldn't have brought anywhere near that if he wasn't out of thw mare..
