Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | I'm getting a new mare with Doc Bar lines to breed to El Scorcho. I like seeing the Clabber II and Three Bars on your mares pedigree. Scorcho has them, also, and I like to add extra doses of great horses like that.
What would you try to improve in your mare? I like Honours A Bounding for another dose of Lightning Bar. I really like PC Lock n Frost having seen him in person. Blazin Jet O'lena is a pretty nice producer.

| I love Blazin Jetolena but I'm afraid him and Streak of Fling are going to be out of budget
shes built like a tank. Short 14.1 which doesn't bother me. Shes a little long too. |

Well, if she's short, I'd stay away from Blazin Jet O'lena. |

They're both booked full for 2015 anyway..at least BJO for sure, but I heard that about ASOF. could be wrong though!
ASOF has some nice sons standing that are cheaper.. |

| I'm not sure about the budget really. I imagine he's not going to go over the top. I'd think more around the 1000 range give or take. I like her the way she is really. not much I would improve on her. She's easy to please. Doesn't get bothered and just about anyone can hop on her. She's no racehorse. I would like a little more speed. I love CS flashlight and Ima Firefighter. ALso Lions share of fame. I kind of want to stay away from Frenchman's Guy. Not that anything is wrong with them by any means. Just a personal preference deal.

Of those, I like LSOF the best. |

| I'm kind of apprehensive about breeding to a pally. When I do the color calculator I get a chance of a perlino. They're growing on me but I'm on the fence

| Are you prepared to pay for shipping and AI costs? Or are you wanting live cover, is this a maiden mare (sometimes aged maiden mares are harder to get in foal never looked on the age of yours), also do you have a good repo vet who has great success with frozen.
I would try to put as much run into the horse as possible, I would lean toward DTF stallions, FWF (depending on bottom side, might not give enough run), FG stallions (again depending on bottom side might not give enough run). MJP, MSM prodigy are also ones I would consider.
I heard cs flashlight semen is not viable for a long time, not sure if this has changed in the past few years, this would be one question I would be asking.

You shouldn't have a chance of a perlino with breeding her to a pally, she is grey but have you had her color tested? If she carries a dilute gene then you have a chance for a perlino otherwise you don't. Perlino and cremellos are double dilutes, palominos and buckskins are single dilutes. Might be worth getting her tested to see what she really is, UC Davis is great to use. |

| She's 11 and this would be first foal. I have a vet I'm confidant in. |

Location: Oklahoma & Texas | You might try the Triple Crown 100 or another Stallion Service Auction too - if on a budget sometimes you can get a more expensive breeding for less on those.. I love Imafirefighter - a friend has 2 foals out of him both are awesome.. her mare was smaller too - and they threw nice size 14.2 ish now sized 2 adn 3 yr olds.. both have great minds.. no buck and fast learners.. I would also suggest Dashin Dynamo - he'd cross nice with your mare - has a shorter back that'd compliment your mare and a little more size and he is race bred so he'll add that speed - he probably has a breeding on Triple crown up for bid as well as a few others I know they keep up with those Auctions for their stallions.. your mare is nicely built - and has a great hip so she'd cross nice with most! I crossed a grey mare with a Palomino stud and got a Palomino - that mare also threw 2 black which turned grey foals out of a palomino stud (same one)... soo perlino is probably rare but there is always that chance... love me some grey mares!! Good luck you'll have to let us know what you cross her with... mine are all being bred to Dashin Dynamo and Shawne Bug Leo this year (personal pref's for the mares I'm breeding this year)... there are a ton of great stallions out there - if you are looking to keep them resell isn't such a big deal you can pick what fits you.. but if you plan to sell them I'd be looking at some marketable stallions where the stallion owners are doing a lot of the marketing for you - saves you the trouble! |
