    Location: California | I am trying to figure out where mine is as far as growth and body condition goes. He is an April baby but technically is 2 in a few days and he just seems small to me. How tall are yours? Would love photos!
Thanks =) |

      Location: Texas | I would love to share pics of my yearling but I am a technotard & do not know how to post pics using my iPhone. I just measured him Thursday & he is 14.2 (+?) and about 825#. I thought the same thing about a month ago, then he got a sudden growth spurt. He is really butt high right now, but stout. How big is yours? I forgot to say, he is a June 1 baby, so he is only 18 mo. Old pedigree http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/gunsnfirewater

    Location: between here and there | Here's my colt that will be 2 in April, too. I haven't actually measured him, but he's every bit of 15 hands.

| This was right around a year. He will be 2 in June. I would say he was about 14.2 also. He towers over our cowhorse yearlings. Do you know how to do the string test? Mine came out about 15.1 or 15.2 on the string test.

   Location: Kansas and loving it | I can't post pictures from my phone either. I also have an April baby who is automatically a 2 yr old January 1. She is on the small side but I like little horses, I don't feed anything special because I want her to grow naturally. I did the string test and she should be about 14.1 or 14.2. Perfect size! |

      Location: Texas | ok, mine looks like a wooly booger (Its been wet, and he likes being dirty), but y'all have nice slick babies. What's up with that?
I sting tested mine a while back and it came out to 15.2

     Location: Texas | Here's mine. He's a feb baby. I don't expect him to be very tall but I think he's going to be stout. I love him. I've been saddling and lunging him and sat on him the other day. I am trying to do what I can now because I will be busy with school in the spring so he'll get a nice break until May.
If you want a height comparison.. my weanlings are almost as tall as him. LOL. poor guy. But my weanling colt is by Firewater Ta Fame who is a tall sucker and his dam is 15.2 so, not a fair comparison!
ETA- working on uploading pic.. internet connection is pretty crummy :(

       Location: In the wrong place at the wrong time | So happy you started this thread! I've been kind of worried that my April 24 baby was on the small side. He is 14.1 at the withers and 15 hands at the hip.
He is by Firewater Finale out of a Six Fols mare.
Edited to add....sorry can't post pic from my phone.

     Location: East Texas | My stud colt is pretty big for a yearling. He was born april 5th, so he is 20 months right now. He sticked right at 15.1hh. However his dam is a 16.1hh daughter of Shawne Bug, so I expected him to be a big boy. The second picture is of my gelding I run on the right, who is 16hh and the stud colt on the left, and this picture was in october when he sticked at 15hh.

    Location: California | I guess mine (its actually my moms) just isn't filled out at all. He looks so scrawny and not muscular. I don't get it. He doesn't get fancy feed but he gets plenty of feed. We have never raised a yearling before. He is still intact. Lively and happy just ugly. I have seen both his parents and they are very large... |

Some lines just mature slower than others. I don't think you have to get "fancy" with the feed, but they have different needs than an adult horse, so you do need to make sure that they are getting plenty of EXCELLENT hay, plenty of protein and fat, and the right balance of minerals. I think you also have to deworm regularly. I do it every 2-3 months. Also, by gelding him you will prolong his growth period and get a larger frame than if you leave him a stud.

He's a little taller than the pic and shiney because winter weather hadn't hit yet! Sorry to make you feel bad about a shaggy coat! lol I haven't taken any recently so I cheated! Believe me, he's got more hair now! :) |

She is about 14hh at the withers and 14.2 at the hip.
She is still pretty lean, but is just starting to fill out.
