So I wanted to start ulcer guard on a young horse and was wondering if you can compete on them while you are treating?

We did, we had the mare scoped and she had 2 grade 2 ulcers and 2 other spots.
The bet recommended Ulcer guard for 28 days, then 2 weeks of half the doseage and then Smartgut Ultra daily, with ulcerguard given the day before and day of events.
We started treatment the next day and competed that weekend with vets approval. She was fine, won the show and competed at least once more during the 28 day period.

You can compete but sometimes it will make it take longer to heal. The stress can cause the horses to produce more acid. I would try to give a couple week before you compete so it has a chance to help. I personally prefer THE GastroPLUS just because I have gotten better results from it and was cheaper in the long run. See what your horse likes best but I don't see why you couldn't compete.
