Has anyone used the new supplement from Purina called SuperSport? How long have you used it? Any results? Many thanks.

I've been feeding it to my barrel horse since September for energy. I have definitely seen an improvement! A friend of mine at the feed store that turned me on to it tried it on one of her cow horses that was just kind of lean and poor and her horse muscled up and had more stamina.

I'm not a fan of adding a lot of supplements with premix feeds. But I can't keep my horse on anything other than Total Equine because his feet fall apart and he's too laid back on that. He tends to be border line anemic and I've added Red Cell or Ultra fire to his feed before with moderate results but this has worked much better.

I tried it and did not like my mare on it.  I only used it for a few weeks, but she was a nervous wreck and very irritable.  She went back to normal after taking her off of it.

I started it about a couple weeks ago, so can't say yet.  I got it in a silent auction for $7, so I thought why not??

I gave it a good try this past summer and fed it to 2 of the horses I was running. I didn't see any difference.

Actually it's not.... Super Sport has more and is actually a protein supplement. Here's a side by side comparison --- I pulled them both into a spreadsheet.

Here's the Calf Manna link - http://www.mannapro.com/products/calf-manna/horses/nutritional-information/

Here's the Super Sport link - http://purinamills.com/horse-feed/products/supersporttm-amino-acid-supplement/

wouldn't 40% protein be a whole heck of a lot? I was thinking I read somewhere that older horses didn't need the high protein that the youngsters do. Not sure I would give a young one 40%. Can anyone explain this better?

You only feed like 1/4 of a cup. The extra Lysine and Methonine (sp) amino acids are specifically added for the performance horse.  Lysine is supposed to be good for building the top line and adding muscle.

The higher selenium kind of has me worried. Unless you live in an area that is deficient I don't think you are supposed to have more than .1ppm. If someone knows the ratio  please let me know. My area isn't deficient so I don't have to supplement for it therefore I haven't looked into it. Just pulling this out of my brain from school days.

http://www.thehorse.com/articles/15982/selenium-a-balancing-act

"The upper safe total intake of selenium per day, based on the most recent National Research Council publication Nutrient Requirements of Horses, is 20 mg for an average 1,000-pound horse. Many horses get enough selenium (or even too much) just from their regular diet; for these horses, adding even as little as 5 mg selenium per day via supplements can cause mild signs of toxicity."

well it does contain more protein and a few more vitamins and I'm not even sure what it is a bag I'm just assuming purina jacked the price up. I'm really anti big feed at the moment.

I don't feed it anymore.  I've gone to the basics: Beet Pulp to mix vitamin/mineral, good grass hay.
