What are some key things that you look for in a stallion's ad? What do you like to see for the stallions who have been standing for a few years? OR What about the new up and coming stallions that this is their first year standing? What kind of pictures do you want to see on them? Is there anything that catches your eye when reading them? What about eligibilities? Is price a big factor? How do you think a stallion should be priced (Standing for a few years with offspring, and stallions that are just starting to stand?) Do you like to see the pedigree on the ad, or just the parents? I am looking for opinions on choosing a stud, and I feel as if I may be missing some important keys to choosing one just off an ad.

Price is a big thing, and also what all is included in the price. I also really look at the conformation of the stud. Like for my current mare, I've been looking for something a little lighter built, but still has a nice butt because my mare is prettt heavy in the shoulder. I don't want to breed my tank to a tank and get a heavy duty tank lol. I also do some searching and see what his babies look like and what people say about their trainability and attitude. I also like the stallion to be proven and see a couple of their runs that they made.

For myself I like the stallion to be a proven competitor. Several of my broodmares are OTT so I want a proven barrel performer to hopefully pass that ability on. I like to see the pedigree listed and what eligibilities he is enrolled in. Conformation is definitely high on the list, but with photoshop that can go either way.

This is my first year shopping for a stallion, so I have looked at what feels like hundreds of ads lately. The stallions that have made my list have a professional looking ad, with good photos, preferably at least one good conformation photo, a headshot and a performance photo if the horse is running. Price with booking/shipping fees listed. Also, I really want a good informative website that I can go to and look around, I want to see video if possible of the stallion working (running barrels, roping, working cows) whatever his job is. Also, I want as much information as I can get on how his foals have done and video and photos if possible.

Also, somewhere on the ad or website I want to know height, age, weight, and 5 panel test too.

How do you judge an up and coming stallion that has no progeny yet? Is it just by his record? I dont always look at a race record because you never know what may have happened while in training and other things like that, I also understand that some may not even put out or stuff like that. Thats just an opinion of mine. How do you judge stallions that were "injured" but are standing and they have it all- pedigree, mind, kind eye, great disposition, ect? Give me inputs on that as I am not quite sure how to go forth with that when choosing?
