I am fairly new to breeding and QH bloodlines, we have always raised TBs and Warmbloods. I know most of the big names in pedigrees, but not sure yet which crosses are best and which to stay away from.

We recently purchased a new mare by A Classic Dash(First down dash) and Easy Jet on her dams side.

http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/klassic+dash+rio

Would love some input about what you would be looking to cross with if this was your mare. Looking for a foal that down the rodeo can be competitive in the rodeo world as well as jackpots and open barrel races.

The door is wide open for  any of the Frenchmans Guy's, Firewater Flit's or the cow horses who have sired good barrel horses. .

Check out Ain't Seen Nothin Yet he's by FG out of DTF mare I have a super nice weanling by him. I really want to try a Fire On Bug because of his maternal family. A Smooth Guy is a good looking dude as well !

I really like the older lines, so if I had your mare, I would seriously be looking at El Scorcho. He's not gonna be available for long!

I second that put some Streakin six in the mix.

First Down French is out of a daughter of A Classic Dash. I have a mare by him as well and closely related to the dam of FDF so I am going with a son of FG since I can't afford the real thing. It is a line you can go so many ways. Mine is pretty sure of herself, I have never ridden her and we have only owned her since last spring. I don't think she is a mare that can be pushed around or she may push back, so I am keeping with bloodlines that are really willing. She seems to like people and although she is built like a tank, she seems agile as well.

Ive been looking at YQH Frenchmans Fly, Settinemonfire, Dunkin Fire and thinking about looking at a streakin six son.

There are SOOOO many Firewater Flit, Frenchmans Guy stallions out there, hard to pick one.

A few people have told me to stay away from breeding back to a dash for cash line, as I may end up with something too hot.

I would say a big negatory to that comment. DFC on DFC has produced easy going horses for years. You see a ton of First Down Dash stallions put back on DFC bred mares. I have a lot of that doubled up in my herd and we are proud to say we stick with easy going, user friendly horses. There may be some DFC lines known to be hot, but that is most likely because of the dam he was crossed on. JMO

With the 3 you listed I would go with Frenchmans Fly if your mare is thick made

First Down French is one of my favorite studs of all time. His maternal line is similar to your mare. If I had your mare I'd breed to FG if money wasn't an issue. If it is (and it usually is) try looking at Frenchmans Boogie. That would be a really nice cross!

I'm going with this guy. First pedigree is their future baby and the other is First Down French. Wish I could afford FG himself.

Thank you for the input. I didn't have enough knowledge either way to say if it was true or not.

WOW! First Down French has a very similar line on the dams side. If only I had the $$ for Frenchmans Guy I would have pretty much the same. I just dont have those funds. Im trying to stay at or under $1500

That is going to make a nice baby. I had a pie in the sky grandson, by bully bullion and he was such a nice horse, really level headed and quiet. Could do anything in the world with him.

I would breed to something that is very user friendly.  But I never have got a long with my wifes ACD.

wow.. I went and watched the videos of FDF on his website. LOVE him. I just worry that they are too closely related to breed? Thoughts? That wouldn't be much mix in the foals bloodlines.

Thanks for the Scorcho suggestion. I appreciate it :)

Scorcho does put a mind on all of his foals. The foal won't be hot. That I can guarantee.

I think A Classic Dash is a broodmare sire that will mix with a lot of different sires.

I can say that i'm loving my two El Scorcho colts!!!  Both are great minded and very user friendly.  There is nothing i've thrown at either of them yet that they couldn't or didn't handle. I'd have 10 more if I could afford them......and if they were even available!

Oh I wouldn't cross on FDF, but on FG himself or another son to try and get something similar. FG is a really nice sire of sires and he has several really nice ones out there. They should all cross on a Classic Dash daughter well. I am going with Guys Piece Ofthe Pie because he is owned by friends and I am getting to ride him so I know first hand how great his mind is.

El Scorcho is such a neat stallion too. I have one mare that I may take to him if I get the husband talked into AI'ing.
