Location: DUMPING CATS AND PIGS IN TEXAS :) | Looking for blankets for a few of my horses. We live in LA so it doesn't get extremely cold, but I would like a good quality blanket that is weather resistant. I bought a Weatherbeeta and like it, but the price was $125. Just wondering if there are other more economical blankets out there as I would like to purchase 4 or 5 of them. |

Ok. I'll look. Thanks.
What are the better blankets? I'm only familiar with a Weatherbeeta lol. This is new territory for me. |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | I've tried several brands and Weatherbeeta holds up the best. They rip less and there are less issues with straps etc. My horses are TOUGH on blankets. I swear they think its contest to see who can tear theirs up first. lol $125 is on the low end for a quality blanket so I don't know how much cheaper you can find one without compromising a lot of quality. |

That's good to know. I really like the blanket we bought. I may just have to buy one at a time until I get them all covered. The one I bought was from Tractor Supply and I find that their prices are a little high on a lot of things, so that had me wondering if there was a quality blanket for a little cheaper. Thanks. |

Location: Oklahoma | you can find Weatherbeeta deals on Ebay. I bought one in 2010 and it is still in really good condition and holding up. My boy is still wearing it daily too. |

Location: In The Snow, AZ | I would definitely check out Ebay. I was looking for an extra blanket before winter. Thank God I bought one because hubby bought me a horse that has been in Phx, AZ weather, blanketed and under lights his entire life. Needless to say, he's pretty much hairless. Coming up to 0-20* temps was scary.
I actually ordered from TackMarket. I'm not sure how well known they are, but I got a 1200D 400 fill, rip stop, waterproof heavy weight turnout blanket for $65. It has held up wonderful thus far. Plus, they come in vibrant, eye popping patterns. http://stores.ebay.com/Tackmarket
Just a thought! Good luck in your search. I know what you mean on the prices. They can hurt when you need more than one. |

| Check out Valley Vet and State Line Tack...they both usually have some good sales! If you can get by til spring, winter blankets usually go on clearance marked down quite a bit. Weatherbeeta is definitely the way to go...everything else I've had has been shredded! |

| I agree with Weatherbeeta. The Saxon blankets are not near as expensive as some of their lines, and all of mine have held up extremely well. The best place that I've found price wise is Chicks Saddlery, or if you can wait until spring/summer you can usually stock up on some closeouts at different places. |

I've had really good luck with Saxon as well. I bought my four this style: http://m.horse.com/item/saxon-1200d-high-neck-250g-turnout-chestnut...
The high neck covers quite a bit of the neck and helps prevent any pressure/pulling on the wither. The only downside is the sides of Saxon are cut fairly short. Mine cover just below the bottoms of their bellies. When I cross the belly straps it pulls the sides pretty snug around their bellies. They stay in place really well though and mine love to lay down to nap throughout the day so they get up and down quite a bit. I usually adjust the rear an inch or two when I feed but no major shifting at all. |

I got a midweight combo Weatherbeeta turnout for $80 with free shipping. Get on the email list for some of the companies, think it was valley vet that sent me an email for 20% off. |

Location: KS | The best one I have ever had was a Defender. I haven't been able to find them, but they didn't have fiberfil in them. three buckle with snap closures on the front. They were only like $50 and I have had this one for 5 years and only one small tear at the seam for back leg strap.
I also like Tough One blankets and they are very reasonable.

Go with the higher denier...they will be more water repellent and tougher to tear. It's worth a little extra cost when the blanket lasts much longer. I have bought from SS tack in the past...and this year I got a great 1200 Denier midweight turnout blanket for a really great price from www.horseloverz.com
It's even orange with Camo trim! Great for a smallish horse living in the national forest dueing deer hunting season
