Some friends and I are thinking of going South for a week vacation...
Has anyone been to an affordable all-inclusive resort they could recommend? Biggest concern is a nice beach with clear water and fun activities. I've looked at a couple in Cancun and Playa Del Carmen, but open to other locations as well.  Thanks!!

I was thinking under $3,000 for a week long stay at the resort.

Sandals at the Grande St. Lucian. There is so much to do, you really dont need to leave the resort for anything.

Oh, and Azul Sensatori in Riviera Maya, Mexico. We are staying for a week in June. Very reasonable.

I used to set up dealer incentive trips for the company where I worked. Several years, we used the Sandals in Jamaica, Bermuda and St. Lucia. We never had any complaints and I considered them reasonable.

Some friends and I went to Jamaica last winter and loved it. We stayed at the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach about 15 mins outside of Montego Bay. The hotel, staff, and food were all great. We went on several excursions and had a lot of fun. The beach and water were very nice. It was all inclusive with a direct flight for 7 days and we paid $2100 total plus about $500 for excursions.

We stayed at Los Barriles a couple of years back for 12 days in a pool/beach front ground level room. With our meals all included(tickets) for any of there 3 restaurants and room service ended up being less then $1600 for the two of us. That also included two days of sport fishing.

We stayed at the Jewel at Dunn's river in Jamaica last winter and it was super nice and very affordable.  We spent under $3000 including a couple of really cool excursions and a massage.  It was adults only and we enjoyed that a lot. LOL

Btw, I wasn't impressed with Mexico AT ALL. It was alright, but I don't plan to go back.

The Hyatt Zilara in Cancun is the nicest place you'll find. Depending on where you're coming from, you should be able to swing it with that budget. If you go to Trip Advisor, it's the #2 hotel in Cancun and the #1 is ridiculously expensive. I've been there twice and no other resort compares. The drinks are all top shelf liquor and the food is AMAZING. Most all-inclusives have mediocre food at best. I went to 2 weddings in Mexico in 2014 (on in Feb, on in Dec). One was at the Hyatt and one was at the Sandos Caracol Eco in Playa (we took our kids to this one). No comparison. We've also been to a couple of resorts in Cozumel and one other resort in Playa (Gran Porto).

we've been to sandals in montego bay, jamaica and the royal bohemian in bahamas. if you book in advance you can usually get some good savings with air credit and things like that. bahamas resort was way better and the scuba diving was worlds better. but the people and the food and other activites was better in jamaica. 3K budget should get you a good vacation!

We booked through a travel agent at Sunwing.

So I just returned from a weeklong vacation at Majestic Elegance Punta Cana. It was fun, we had a blast for sure! However, next time a question for my Travel Agent will be "Are their toilets square?" I was sooo happy to get to the airport where I didnt have to perch precariously on the edge of the toilet to avoid falling in!!

My husband and I have stayed at the Sandos Playacar Beach Resort in Playa Del Carment twice. We are "beach" people and its important to us that the resort we stay at has a nice beach. This one won't disappoint. The rooms were also very clean, very friendly staff, and the food was delish!

I would also recommend the Riu Palace in Negril, Jamaica. Last year we went, with most of my sisters and my sister in law, and we had a blast. The beach was amazeballs, the food was great, and the drinks were even better!!! LOVED the jamaican jerk. We took a tour to the rum factory, which was awesome, swam in the jungle pools, went to Rick's Cafe, rented jetskis and all of it was FUN! We didn't really trust the locals so we never went off the resort, except for our guided excursions. I believe we booked our excursions through delta, but I can't remember.

For what its worth, we liked Playa Del Carmen Mexico better than Jamaica:) But we still had a lot of fun and had great weather in both places.
