| My bay horse is fusing in his hocks. He has some good days and some very sore days. Last Night gave him 6cc pentosan. He was bucking and kicking and feeling great today! Anyone else have fast results with it? |

It is not all the time, but I have noticed sometimes he seems to have a very quick response. (like 24-48 hours later they look noticeably better) |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Can you tell me the dibs on this. All the info you have-Cost, how to give it, how often etc? I have a coming 23yr old gelding that my son rode last summer for Gymkhanas. He is wanting to again, but this ol boy is getting pretty short in the front end and just wear and tear from the years competing. They do so well together and I would like to keep the ol boy comfortable. My son mostly trots and lopes home from 3rd. So we aren't out there breaking records. I was going to do Legend, but was hoping there is something a little better for actual pain relief. |

Location: Midwest | It's 130 for 50 mL (for me, through my vet). I give 6-6.5 mL weekly during the season and at least bi-weekly during the off season.
I would not give it to a bleeder, I'd probably choose Adequan instead for those cases. I have heard it doesn't work for every horse. However, I have seen really good results with my just turned 18 yo gelding. It has greatly extended the time between his IA injections.
ETA: IMO, Legend is not really worth the cost for the benefits it gives... jmho

| I get mine from www.horseprerace.com The pentosan Gold version which has pentosan and glucosamine. Its a 129.00 for a 50cc bottle. Doses are 5-6cc each.. You would get about 10 doses per bottle. You give one dose per week for 4 weeks then monthly.. My horses responded to almost IMMEDIATELY. |

My thoughts on the Legend as well. I'm going to talk with my vet next time I see him. I think this is a great plan for my old guy. |

Can I ask why it shouldn't be given to bleeders? I'm considering trying some but do have one that might be a bleeder. Thank you. |

| I recently told a boarder about Pentosan, she ordered it the next day. She has a 24 y/o very arthritic retired halter horse she just rescued. Just watching him walk was miserable. He is 3 weeks in to the loading does and running around the pasture by himself now. :)
My horses won't be without it! |

It is not advised to be given to bleeders because it's an anti coagulant that's what it was originally used for, to prevent blood clots. A bleeder could bleed out of on it after a run. However I was reading today that 24 hours after the dose the horses blood clotted normally. So I would just not give it to close to race day. |

Location: Bandera, TX | In our stockdog! He gets better overnight. The horses take serial injections prior to seeing real effect.
As someone mentioned I won't give to a bleeder cause they will bleed. |

| I never have seen results with it but adequan I have seen a difference. Legend really is only short term so what I do is give it on Thursday morning on my big three day weekend shows and it makes a difference. Only works up to 72 hours

Wow. Is there any difference between this and what you'd get from a vet? I have a 17 year old that I'd like to see if he's a canidate for. He was bad last winter, but I had him injected and he's been pretty good this winter... but every little bit helps! |

I never saw very good results with it on my very old, arthritic kid horse. Previcox works best on him, I don't regret loading him with the pentosan though just in case it helped a little. |

I have used the one from wwedgewood and horse pre race. Honestly I see better results with the pre race version. |

| How many shots and how long on loading dose? And then the monthly cost? Is it better to have a horse injected if they need it and then put them on Pentosan ? |
