If you want probiotics try Fastrak.
FORCO is a prebiotic and has only one job and that is to feed the good bacteria in the gut and to bring the horse's digestive system to the best performance that is allowed by the genetics of the horse. |

I've had great luck with Forco as my prebiotic, and 10 days of tube probiotics. ProBios is pretty good, and SmartPak makes a paste that I'd use in a heartbeat.
During that introductory 10 days, a good product like SmartGI Ultra can be started, it's good great bugs for both front and hind gut and can be used together with Forco.

Location: Willows, CA | I am a prebiotic fan, and only use a probiotic after a situation that would justify artificial introduction of beneficial bacteria to the system. A proper functioning digestive system should not need daily additions to maintain a proper population, but rather, should easily maintain that population on it's own. A prebiotic helps support the proper environment for existing bacteria. High stress, high grain inclusions of over 2 pounds per feeding, changes in a feeding program, or antibiotic treatments can justify short term probiotic use. In a healthy horse with a fully functioning digestive system a daily addition should not be necessary. Save that money, and buy better hay with it. |

Location: Pacific Northwest | I just started a horse on FORCO a few days ago, I'll let you know what I think (: He has issues with diarrhea related to hindgut ulcers...he's already on EquiShure but sometimes his poop still gets really runny out of the blue, I wanted to see if something like FORCO would help. I had already tried Fasttrack and it didn't help (for him).

He had been grumpy, ****y, and alittle chinchy, had been chiro'd and is in good shape that way. so I treated him with Omeprazole. Now I want him on something either pre or pro or both to keep his gut heathly and feeling good. He eats anything and everything with no problem, looks great weight wise and very shinney. Just wanting to maintain good gut health! |

Location: Willows, CA | How much and which ADM feed do you feed? When you have a horse on pasture "24 / 7", unless you are feeding quite a bit of grain based feed, there should not be a ulcer issue. When I do see a problem in this situation it is usually a teeth problem. If a horse is sore in the mouth they will chew less than normal. This in turn makes less saliva which, along with less pasture roughage because it hurts to chew means that the horse is missing the most natural buffers to the constant stomach acid that it makes. In most cases, the answer is to treat the ulcer. At the same time, make sure that there is nothing going on with the teeth that can irritate the cheek or side of the tongue. In addition, limit grain based feeds to not more that 2 pounds total per feeding. Some alfalfa in the diet for calcium can also be a benefit.

My horse had hind gut ulcers and once I got the ulcers under control, I added FORCO and use THE GastroPlus when I would haul and when there was a big change in the weather. I started this back in 2006 and he is now with my sister on the same regimen and he looks and is doing amazing. She had run out of the FORCO and said she then understood why I kept him on it and she said she will never be without it again. |

Nevertooold, thank you so much for this information! I have not tried FORCO, but I might go ahead and see if it works for my boy. I have treated him for the Ulcer, Now I want something to help keep his gut healthy and prevent them from coming back. He is in excellent condition and you would not think of ulcers when you look at him, but his actions said otherwise! Thanks again! |

Location: Texas | Look into ProBiostatin. I can't report on the results because I just ordered it. However, based on my research I was impressed when comparing it to other probiotics. The ProBiostatin was the only probiotic I found that was Antibiotic resistant. But the best probiotic is the one that works for YOUR horse. |
