Location: Middle Tennessee | Has anyone every had a horse with an upper respiratory or lung infection? We have mistaken my gelding for a bleeder for a few months now. Finally got a good scope done and found that he has a lung infection. We are treating with Equisul Antimicrobial. My boyfriend took my horse for me, so the vet wasn't able to explain it to me personally. I go back tomorrow (Friday) for another horse and he said he will talk to me then.
Just wondering if any of you have ever dealt with one. He said he should be cleared up in approx. 3 weeks. |

| Yep, I had one. We just used SMZ's for 10 days and it was good. |

| I haven't had luck with SMZs. I've done well with Exceed, and really well with Doxycycline. It might be worth asking about prednisone too, do get the inflammation out.
Time off and keeping the horse in a dust free environment is really important too. |

Location: Pacific Northwest | My horse had bronchitis and it set off a whole mess of issues. All I can say is if the cough isn't clearing up, don't waste your time with feed-thru supplements because I tried them ALL, and if your current vet isn't helping solve the problem go to a different one. My horse was already in a dust-free environment and getting soaked hay, and I would take him to the vet and they'd put him on dex and it would help but not completely clear it up. So I tried him on every cough supplement known to man and none of them worked. I finally spent a bunch of money at a specialist and he has inflammatory airway disease and irreversible damage. He's manageable but it's a lot of work if I want to run him (dex, ventipulmin, inhaler, steamed hay, lasix).
So if after the antibiotics are done you still think he's not quite right, keep looking for answers. |

I was just ready to say this and I saw your post...this is the most amazing stuff ever...I keep it on hand and even people can take it (warning: not FDA approved for people, but we know how that goes...lol).....I also use the stuff they used to make to spray stalls at shows and clean buckets with....
I use colloidal silver everyday on myself and I haven't been sick for about 4 years.....Equi-sure contains this among other ingredients...I've used it for years and dose it 5cc in each nostril or 10cc by mouth...it's much more than a supplement, but they can't legally say what all it really does....awesome and a natural infection fighter when all else fails.... |

Location: Middle Tennessee | Got to talk to the vet myself. He has Inflammatory Airway Disease. The infection is being treated and we will do a recheck in 3 weeks. Going to get a nebulizer to help him. |

Location: Texas!! | Awe, I'm sorry he was diagnosed with that. For infection I've had really good luck with Uniprim, I'm not sure if it's in the same family as SMZ or not.
