Location: North Dakota | What are some good quality horse trailers that can be found for under $6,000? I'm not looking for new or fancy or anything with living quarters, just a safe, easy to pull 2-3 horse slant load or even a stock trailer if it's tall enough (my horses are 16hh and 15.3hh).

Titan makes a really solid trailer. They'll be in that price range and relatively easy to find. I have had a little run around bumper pull Avalanche model for several years and it's great! |

| I love my WW 3 horse slant bp with front tack. It's a great trailer. When I get my LQ trailer hopefully in a year or two, I will definitely be keeping this one too!

| W & W, CM, and Titan make good, affordable steel trailers. I've only ever personally had a CM, but it was a cinch to pull and never had any issues. |

Location: Buffalo, TX | I was going to agree that Titan (the one out of Kansas) makes the best steel (galvaneal) trailer (in my opinion)....we used to sell them but they got too high for steel, but I bet you could find a nice used one....and yes, older Trail-et's are very nice too... |

ETA i have a 16.1hh gelding and a 15.3 gelding... both fit without cramping. I have great features too, a swing out saddle rack, extra tire in the tack room bolted back to keep it out of the weather. blanket bar, and bridle racks.

Location: Montana | We have an '09 Calico (made in Arkansas I believe) that we got three years ago for less than $6000 (I think we paid $4500...might have been $4000, I can't remember! LOL). It works as either a 2 horse slant load type trailer or the tack compartment opens up to where you could use it as a stock type trailer if you want. Very versatile and easy to use.

These are awesome trailers for the money...it's money well spent...they hold their value and I have requests for used ones all the time...used ones sell for only a little under what a new one costs and they sell fast...we sell the crap outta these trailers, I bet we sell nearly 100 a year....we are also WW dealers and I can't sell a WW trailer next to the Calico because Calico offers 16" 10 ply radial tires on everything as standard, and WW uses 15" 6 ply unless you pay for an upgrade.... |

That is what mine looks like too!
I love the little extras that you can find, like drops on both sides, or only on the nose. Mine has a double rear door split 50/50 that has the door holders to keep 'em open for you. The tack room - they have recently made the door wider so if you stack roping saddles with larger stirrups they will still easily swing out - and the saddle rack is a standard 3 tree for the 2 horse trailers. There are plenty of bridle hooks, a blanket bar, and the door to the tack room will easily lend itself to mounting a tack oranizer on it. The slot/space for the spare in the tack room is real nice too - not out in the weather or bouncing around. The mats in the horse area are nice, heavy, thick 1 inch full mats. I have not had any problems pulling them out myself and replacing when I deep clean. |

Location: North Dakota | I've seen a lot of all those brands for sale! I've found though that most of them have a height of only 6'6". Isn't that too short? |

That is the standard height for most livestock trailers. 7 foot is generally the height for horse trailers, and 7'6" is considered a warmblood height. Before I bought my avalanche, I pulled an ancient 16 ft rusty livestock trailer that was 6'6" inside ... I was just really careful about bumps so if my horses' head came up she would be ok.
Have you checked out Horsetrailerworld.com? They usually have lots of good examples .... And, go stand in the trailer you like! I fell in love with a CM online and was all prepared to just pay for it! But when I got to the lot, saw the trailer and stood in it - I moved on to the Titan Avalanche. |
