Location: USA | ok, I have a horse who has a really low palate so a single broken snaffle pokes her. A dogbone adds tongue pressure, chain can add tongue and bar - if I try either of those she gaps her mouth wide open. A port gives tongue relief but I'm afraid it'll also hit her palate. She does the best in a tender touch but I don't get the flex and feel I want when I do slow work. What would yall recommend?

Location: Florida.. | this will help with a narrower palate.. and a great bit.. 3 piece.. will help supple and is comfortable for the horse..you can get a D ring, or loose ring or a eggbutt..

| Had a mare same thing in fact the mare shemwas out of was same way. Never rode well in a regular snaffle, was not good with bit was nose band used a cavason did not do well either did mullen mount fat/skinny mouthpiece. Then went toma thick chain rode well is fat mullen mouth at home. Was at feed store one day and had a myler d ring snaffle bought it for 20. Bux. Rode my gelding with it and he rode well with this bit as it is very contoured he like it, so tried it on my mare she also rode well with it. Also heard that a lot of wierd palleted horses like them. Also, do like a chain with the little correction thing in middle like some of the ropers use, where it will lay flat on toungue. Mybe a ed wright pretzel bit. |

Location: USA | I've done the clampitt hack, beetle and JW - she does better in them, but I just don't get the feel like I do with a bit. I'll look into the myler. Not sure why she does better in a tender touch. I think I've tried a chain mouthpiece before, but I can't remember. I have a gag chain bit - What chain bits do yall recommend??

Location: SW New Mexico | I consider my Cindy Wright 3 piece bits to be my "secret " lol!
they all work off the corners of the mouth, and not the bars.. I prefer the 3 piece smooth sweet iron draw, and have successfully got many good horses well broke in one.. I also have the 3 piece copper twist draw for ones that need lightening up, and her 3 piece welded chain , I've won $$ in many pro rodeos with..
She is a Great Horsewoman!

| My mare has this exact issue - this bit is a miracle worker. Myler triple barrel mullen eggbutt snaffle

Location: Back in MT BABY!!! | Any of you possibly have pictures for some of the bits you are recommending?
I have a mare that I can't seem to find the right bit to run in because she is so light. Never thought it could be a palate issue. I just try to not touch her during the run and let her do her thing. |

Location: KS | Look into Myler bits. They have one that is a forward tilted mouthpiece. They are very easy to work with. Send them and email with your problem and they can tell you the best option for your horse. |

Location: NE Texas | I would try a Loomis gag or a Carter Collector gag. Even though bboth are broken in the middle like a regular O ring or D ring snaffle, the way they are both rigged on the string and the curved shanks doesn't allow them to break in the middle and push up into the palate. I also always have a ton more bend and feel in the Loomis than I do with an O or D ring. LOVE the Loomis Carter Collector gags! |

I currently have my mare in a loomis..this seems to be what she likes the best...but I still try to not touch her in a run.
My goddaughter ran her this summer and she was a little heavier handed and I noticed my mare would have her mouth open a lot...maybe I will try a dogbone mouth piece instead of the snaffle for when she runs her... |
