Someone on BHW mentioned that they got a Fitbit. That stemmed my curiosity, and they look pretty neat. I think I could really use some help with sleep tracking and the movement patterns/motivation to walk a lot more.

Question is, those of you who have them, do you love/hate them? Use them a lot? What do you do with them when you're riding? Pretty curious about them, they sound like a great idea.

I like mine.  I have the clip on one.  I don't think it' does that great tracking sleep, you have to tell it when you go to bed and it doesn't seem accurate at all as to when it thinks you're asleep.  (woke up at 3 am and read for an hour and it didn't register I was awake).  I do like it to remind me a the end of the day when I might need to be a bit more active.  I find myself handwalking the horses to cool them out, taking the stairs at work, and finding other random ways to be more active.  I like the friends feature, it lets you challenge each other.  I don't think it's always 100% accurate, but it's fun.  Somedays it gets a bit crazy on the stair levels, really not sure why.  I work on the 5th floor and make a point of going up and down the stairs a few times daily - my daily goal is 20 flights and you get no credit for going down.  I think if I had one of the wrist ones I'd wind up drowning it.  I leave it on when I ride and check how far I'm working my horse as well.

I have one for my wrist and I like it. I'm a nurse practitioner and I like knowing how much I actually walk during the day. I will say that it goes crazy when you ride your horse and thinks you have walked A LOT! It gives you some motivation to get up and move. I feel like it reads my sleep fairly accurately. You do have to tell the app when you go to sleep, and then hit the button in the morning when you wake up. It's quick and easy though. It also works with my Weight Watcher's account. Depending on the how much I move that day, I get activity points that I can use for a cheat meal occassionally. I think it works with MyFitnessPal as well.

I just started using one, I was given it as part of a program at my work. It is not a fitbit brand, it is polar brand, it comes with a chest strap that tracks your heart rate. I like it so far. I wore it this weekend while riding and snowmobiling and I think it tracked my movement pretty well. I was doing avalanche training and was shoveling snow and it showed me how many calories I supposedly burned, then yesterday I watched what my heart rate was before and after I ran, also when I rode my young horse that is an arobic work out lol.I am using with my fitness pal to track calories. I am not sure about the sleep tracking, I know I do not sleep restfully and it tracked that I had 32 steps while sleeping but that could be my tossing and turning.

I have a Jawbone Up24 and love it. It tracks sleep, steps, workouts, food, calories eaten and calories burned plus protiens, sugars, fiber etc... it gives you suggestions after a week of what you can do to improve your health, it will buzz your arm if you have been still for more than 30 minutes, it will give you daily challenges and encouragement throughout the day to achieve your goals. It has bluetooth. You can  connect to friends that have them and create teams for friendly competition or encouragement. Pretty cool. I just got mine for Christmas.

I love my fitbit. You can also use the runtastic app and set it to horseback riding when you ride. I will check my app and see what my friends have done and I hate when they are beating me.. It makes me walk more. I will walk in place while I am filling up water. It does go a little crazy when riding, but you should definitely get some credit for riding. I know when I get done with one horse, I am beat... He is so much work. And you put someone on that doesnt ride and arent they sore when they get done? That means muscles are getting used. If anyone wants to connect with me, my email is [email protected]. I aslo use it with my weight watchers app. I have the fitbit Charge. I have to have a watch and this one does. You dont have to tell it when you are going to sleep, it just knows. It has for sure got me more motivated. I want to get at least 10000 steps per day. Eventually I will up my step amount.

I like heart rate monitors better than pedometers. I have a Polar FT6 and love it. I wear it anytime I do anything physical because I love to watch the calories tick away and I get in competitions with it to see how high I can get my heart rate and how long I can keep it there. Polars are known to be very accurate too.

I love mine. I have an office job behind a computer and I knew I didn't move around much at work, but once I got it I realized how bad it was. I like that it gives me move motivation to move more. I only get 30 min. for lunch, but now I take a quick mile walk on my lunch and then eat while I work. I also don't sleep that great at night, so I like that I can track my sleep and while it is not 100% accurate it is pretty close. You can also set silent alarms to go off. I have mine set to go off every hour at work to remeind me to get up and go downstairs quick just to move or get some more water.

This is really cool! Does the fitbit run with the horseriding app, or is that a separate app for your phone. This really sounds like something I need.

I really like mine so far.  :)  Haven't had it long enough to learn everything about it, but so far so good.  I've been told that I can challenge people with fitbits to see who can get the most steps and such, but I haven't gotten that far!

I have a polar loop and I love it. It has a watch, it shows my activity and it shows how far I have left to meet my goal. I think I set my goal for the medium level so I really have to work to meet it. I have it blue toothed to my phone so what I'm doing also shows up on the polar loop app on my phone. My phone will buzz when I have been sitting for too long. My favorite part is when I meet my goal because I get fireworks on my polar loop :)

I do feel like it doesn't get the calories I burn right, though. I know when I'm lifting at the gym it doesn't add up the calories very fast nor does it count it as "activity".

I cant remember if this app connects with the fitbit. But it will tell you when you get the app and I just use it with my phone. It uses the gps on your phone to tell you how far you have riden.

Not funny. You guys know I clicked on this expecting to see a horse bit. Maybe some new shank or a mouthpiece I don't have...
Now I have to go buy this Fitbit thing. Do they make one that shocks you into activity?

I have a Strivv touch , its not a fit bit but I love it. I wear it all the time, it connects with MFP. Makes me aware of how lazy I have been or how active. Has actually helped a lot with trying to loose weight. What I like more about this one is it actually shows you on the band how many steps you have taken, calories burned, and time active and more you don't need to log in to the app to see all it tracks. I got it on Amazon for around $50 also which was a plus

I have a Fitbit flex that I have been using for about a week. My neighbor upgraded to a fancier type of thing, so she gave me this one. I can tell you this, it makes me more conscious of how much exercise I get throughout the day. I am a competitive person and I want to get all the lights to illuminate. As silly as it sounds, I do more because I want to meet the goal. The app on my iphone syncs with it and is easy to use as well. I have mine linked to MyFitnessPal (which I also use) and it blends well with that app as well.
Would I pay $99 for one? Probably not. I looked at them in the past, but just couldn't justify it. However, I do like it since I got it for free! lol I'm such a cheapo!

You can set it to vibrate if you are inactive for 45 minutes, I think I have read.

If you sleep with it on your wrist - which the one I've got comes with a wristband for at night.  The dang thing has a silent alarm and vibrates like CRAZY!  It will dang sure startle you into full awake mode. I might have gone into a full on panic the times I tried it at night trying to get the bug off me......

I love my fit bit. My children got this for me 2yrs ago lost 34 lbs the first year with the lose it program. Got lazy and let it go for a few months gained back 5 but join back with my lose it and now lost 7. I do not go anywhere with out it. With my lose it program it tells me how many calorie I can have in a day. You need to build your food data base but after a few weeks it so easy plus I can scan the bar codes.
