Location: MD | how painful is this 4 teeth extraction going to be? :/ These bad boys are doing wonders for my weight loss though since I can't even bare the idea of eating they hurt so bad! |

| It's not bad, I was out completely though. It's the healing process that I thought was painful and you need to make sure you don't get dry sockets. |

Location: Kansas | I had to be put under to have mine cut out, I had an allergic reaction to the sedative....but otherwise it wasn't bad. I looked like a chipmunk, and talked like a drunk LOL. It took about 3 days for the pain to subside. |

Location: Randolph, Utah | It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, I was under anesthesia for the procedure.
I didn't have to take many pain pills the ibuprofen kept my pain down. The worse for me was the swelling, I swelled up to my eye on the one side.
I slept in the recliner, I was told sleeping upright helped with the pain. I bought lots of pudding, instant mash potatoes, and microwaveable soup. The warmth from the soup felt good on my sore mouth. i also bought ice packs and used them frequently. |

Location: Oklahoma | I had mine taken out when I was 16. I wound up having to do it as an out patient because the anesthesia the first time wasn't enough to keep me down and apparently I fought them.... 
I had pain pills that helped tremendously, but I do remember breaking down at school the day of my check up because the pain was so bad and I wanted to take another pain pill, but my mom wouldn't let me because no one else could drive us to my appointment. (Side note: she's not a bad mother. Her eyes aren't good enough to let her drive in bigger citites and my dad couldn't get off work.) So.... have someone who can take care of you so you can take your pills!!! Mine weren't even coming in yet or causing me any pain, but I had braces for 2.5 years prior to that and it was more of a proactive surgery so it wouldn't mess up the work the braces had done. You probably already have a higher pain tolerance than I do if yours are already giving you pain! Good luck!!! Get some good TV shows on your DVR or some books to read cause that's all your gonna be doing for a few days!

Location: MD | This is making me feel better... I have all four surfaced, two are (i think) completely grown in. two others have just just gotten through the surface and I'm struggling. I'm hoping I have a nice doctor that will knock me completely out because I doubt I'll be able to handle this process otherwise. |

Location: White Mountains of AZ | I had mine done a few years back. I was awake and they kept injecting me with numbing stuff. That was the worst. When I first got home, I was jacked up on pain pills so I ate some mac and cheese. DON'T DO THAT! It hurts a while after ha!. Codene helped me get to sleep and stay asleep, but so much with pain. The Prednisone made my skin look model worthy, so that was fun!. But just soup and popsicles were my main food for a while. And I had to miss a 3 day barrel race that kicked me out of my saddle and buckle for the end of the year. That was actually the worst! |

Location: Kentucky | I had mine done awhile ago and I hear stories about people NOT people put under. Are you kidding me???? Who would willingly do that?? Make SURE your doc will put you under.
Other than that, follow the doc's post op care to a T and you will be fine. |

| I had mine out when I was like 19 or 20. I was out completely and I had zero pain. No pain, no swelling, nothing. I went to the fair and a concert that same day and the rest of the week. My mom did enjoy our conversations on the way home though, she thought I was pretty entertaining! |

| All four of mine were below the gums and I was knocked out. Other than being cold from the anesthesia when I woke up, it was easy. I didn't even have much pain during recovery, but I had pills for the first few days.
The only thing that grossed me out was my tongue would always play with the stitches as it was healing. Then I would eat and the stitches were gone...

Location: Winging It in KY | It's not a big deal. I had mine done 2 at a time. I guess I am a glutten for punishment. Stayed awake both times. Went to work afterwards and only took ibuprophen for what little bit of pain that I had. Rode my horse that night. The worst is the dry sockets, that can be painful. I would suggest a mask or scarf over your mouth and face if you are planning to go out in the cold. I think that is what happen to me the first time. You will be fine, just do what the doctor says. |

Location: Piedmont, OK | Generally there are no problems, and only minimal discomfort afterward. But If they have to be cut out make sure you follow the post-op instructions to a T! Some people do not follow instructions and end up with dry socket and it is extremely painful. Do Not suck on anything like a straw or cigarette. It can cause the blood clots to dislodge and the bone is exposed - which is what a dry socket is. |

Location: North Central Kansas | I got all 4 (2 were impacted)of mine removed the day before Christmas! I was still in high school so had to do it during break. They put me under for the surgery so the surgery itself was no big deal. However, I bled REALLY bad afterwards. I had to have my gauze changed two or three times before we even made it home (1.5 hr drive). Once we got home I used moistened tea bags and that was a lot better than the gauze. I pretty much stayed in bed for the first couple of days and slept propped up on pillows. Be sure to have plenty of jello or other easy to eat foods.

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | I think I was 25 when I had mine taken out, all 4. I am all against being put completely under so had to undergo the mini counseling "scare the hell out of you" speech when I opted for local anesthesia. They tried to talk me out of it, but I am stubborn. It was honestly no big thing until they put the shots in the roof of my mouth. I could have lived without those I think, but I am all about pain is mind over matter and the pain will be over eventually. They were able to dig mine out and I still have them lol, got some funny looks, but those babies cost about $1200. I'm keeping them.
I couldn't do the pain relief pills they sent me home with. It really upsets my belly and I would rather have pain, than puke and risk dry socket. As long as you follow their care to a T, it is a quick recovery. I drove myself home 3 1/2 hrs the next day. Cheeks bruised and swelled up like a chipmunk, but no so much pain I couldn't tolerate it. You do not want the dry sockets I hear. That is a big deal. |
