My husband was diagnosed when he was 35 of type 2 diabetes.  He's lost over 40 pounds, and some muscle tone.  For the first time since all of this started, I feel scared as hell today.  He came home from work early and went right to bed.  He has an appointment on the 17th.  He keeps burping, not holding his food, he has developed lumps around his back.
Just thinking about his future is terrifying.  I won't be able to handle it.  I love him like my own skin.  Please pray for him.

If he is not holding his food down you need to make sure and take his BS often. If it gets out of control you need to go to the ER. My SO is also type two and we learned the hard way. Ended up spending a week in ICU with DKA.
Diabetic ketoacidosis signs and symptoms often develop quickly, sometimes within 24 hours. For some, these signs and symptoms may be the first indication of having diabetes. You may notice:
  • Excessive thirst
  • Frequent urination
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Weakness or fatigue
  • Shortness of breath
  • Fruity-scented breath
  • Confusion
More-specific signs of diabetic ketoacidosis — which can be detected through home blood and urine testing kits — include:
  • High blood sugar level (hyperglycemia)
  • High ketone levels in your urine
When to see a doctor
If you feel ill or stressed, or you've had a recent illness or injury, check your blood sugar level often. You might also try an over-the-counter urine ketones testing kit.
Contact your doctor immediately if:
  • You're vomiting and unable to tolerate any food or liquid
  • Your blood sugar level is higher than your target range and doesn't respond to home treatment
  • Your urine ketone level is moderate or high
Seek emergency care if:
  • Your blood sugar level is consistently higher than 300 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), or 16.7 millimoles per liter (mmol/L)
  • You have ketones in your urine and can't reach your doctor for advice
  • You have multiple signs and symptoms of diabetic ketoacidosis — excessive thirst or frequent urination, nausea and vomiting, abdominal pain, shortness of breath, fruity-scented breath, confusion
Remember, untreated diabetic ketoacidosis can be fatal.

187 and the not holding his food is from *the other end*  Could he be developing a slowing digestion from diabetes?  He's on metformin plus something else to aid the metformin.

I ask this because he says his burps have a bad odor.   It makes me wonder.

Diarrhea is one of the nastier side effects of Metformin - Dad would have horrible bouts...I have too, but nothing that lasted longer than a couple of days.  My doctor told me if it lasts more than 1-2 days to contact her or if need be go to the ER.  Only time I've had to go that route was when I had both diarrhea and violent nausea and couldn't keep my meds or anything else down.  Only thing ER did was rehydrate me, scold me for not taking my meds, send me home, then send me a bill for $3200 for the 1hr I was there.

Prayers it's nothing more serious...

With this I'd definitely try to get a hold of his doctor & let him/her know what is going on.  Probably will want to move his appointment up...

I agree with contact the doctor to see if you can move the appointment up. Keep checking his blood sugar regularly for now. He may just need a med change or dose change.

Thank you ladies.

We both lost friends recently.  I think being close to those who have passed on has really gotten to me.  It hurts so much to see my husband suffer in any way.  Thank you for the help.   I'm going to see if I can move up the appt.

In the morning after breakfast.  But he's worn down, looks pale and I can't even touch his stomach.  This could be a combination of things but it has happened too many times.  I can't get him in before the 17th.  But, he is up and *****ing at me.  a sure sign he's feeling better.  *rolls eyes*

Could be not delayed emptying, cause by diabetes, can make you gut hurt really bad. I have had that stuff delayed emptying and looked like a post child for a concentration camp about 15 years ago. It is healed once in a while i will get a bad belly ache and turn green and puke about 3 hours of sweating and feeling bad.

My husband too was diagnosed with type 2 a little over a year ago. I totally understand every feeling you are going through.. He was the healthiest person ever. One of the biggest problems people have is the side effects from metformin. Horrible runs and throwing up. Nolan didn't get any of that but my mom did. Keep close eye on his sugars and if they get high go to a urgent care or dehydration signs. Be ready for mood swings. We found he gets cranky when his get too low. But I'm happy to say with the huge diet change mine did he has it very controlled..
Good luck and many prayers.
