I want to hear from you guys about what you feed and give as supplements. We always have threads about this stuff but often can get the same stuff our good old American buddies can. SO! What's your favorite feed? and why? And what do you give as a joint/all around supplement? What about for bleeders if you cant use Lasix? I don't have a bleeder now, but its good knowledge to have if I ever suspect of one. Thanks!!

I feed buckeye (confirmed medication free)
Sometimes I will feed step 7b pro form feeds ( I need to call)
I buy whole flax from viterra seeds

Mineral I feed buckeye as it has no fillers (Hoffmanns has filler product)

Joint I feed lubrysin and formula 1 noni with HA

Ulcers I get from out of country I generally get from Doug, or from a website
I also feed papaya as a top dress so they will eat anything

I am from Alberta if that helps you any

I get it from a health food store, which reminds me I have to stop there, it is purΓ©ed, no preservatives, no additives. I can't remember the brand.

Have you called to see if their horse feed is manufactured at a medication free mill?

I haven't had a chance yet

Red Deer Horse'n Around is where I get it.

Edmonton G&E I believe are the only two stores that carry it in Alberta

I feed Patriot Podium, Whole Oats and Step 8 as needed

For my mare with severe IAD, I feed an absolute AMAZING Canadian Product called THE EGDE (theedgeup.ca). It has helped her immune system, respiratory, feed, you name it. Great product.
I also top dress religiously with Aloe juice, Perfect Lead Nutrition & Therapy's Flax & Herring Oil, and loose salt.

And this post isn't discrimination -- we can't get alot of the GREAT products avaliable to those in the USA... so I get why you're asking for Canadian opinions :)

OOoo good topic!

We feed high qual pasture mix bales and Step 4 to everyone, barrel horses and reiners get Step 8 instead of Step 4. Both from UFA. My barrel horses also get Equitop Myoflex (I think Vetoquinol makes it) to get beefier (it is amino acids from seaweed or algae or something....LOL smells awful but they will eat it).  Farrier formula from UFA for feet....Barrel horses and one of the reiners get compounded omeprazole (liquid) about twice a year if they need. I just get that from Summit vet.
For joints I don't feed anything. Inject NexHA IM. One barrel horse is on adequan too.
Bleeders, no suggestions there other than Lasix sorry!

Yes the equitop Myoplast, I forgot, I use this when running, or with injuries, I find recovery time is way faster then not using it, and healing time is faster and the horses don't drop weight as much while healing with Equitop Myoplast.

Can You Hear Me Now?

Yep and Rolling Acres is produced in the same mill at least in our area. I know TSC here in Northern Ontario only offers those 2 products. My Co-op isn't much better, it's pretty much just masterfeed products.

To the OP, I see you live about the same distance as I do from the US boarder (about an hour). I spoke with the boarder and the import agency (I forget the exact name) and got a list of feeds I could bring across and chose one. I would go over twice a month and bring back some, when I needed it. Call and speak to a rep at the boarder and I forget who they will put me in contact with to discuss which I could. It's another option if your like me and hate the choices. I also hear Renew Gold is hopefully here soon and I am excited about that.

Right now I use whole oats, Hoffman's minerals and home grown timothy/grass hay; they all look amazing. I don't have any that need weight and I haven't had a lot of time to train/compete; so I haven't went over for a bit and they change the list regularly and add to it. I suggest calling though if your into that.

ETA: This was supposed to be a reply to Mruggles post about Masterfeeds. I will also say everyone in Alberta seems to have a lot more of a selection then we do in Ontario, I have had to do some looking into it here. I also would love to get THE minerals but understand that sometimes the eastern part of the country has a harder time to import it.
