Coconut Oil?
Anyone give coconut oil to their horses as a way to give extra calories? My guy in allergic to EVERYTHING. Literally.
I'm looking for way to help keep his weight up and looking/feeling his best. Anyone have experience with it? Thanks!!

Google it. Savvy Horsewoman
(I think
) gives reasons to feed it to horses. There was some other stuff to look at to.

That's going to be expensive. I can tell you that. I don't use it for my horses but as a hairstylist I use it some and it's fairly pricey for just a small jar.

The CocoSoy oil from Uckele is pretty good stuff. It helps with digestion too.

I don't think cocosoya would be good for a horse with allergies. It's unrefined coconut oil and soybean oil and it's loaded with artificial ingredients

Have you looked at CoolStance? I believe it is coconut meal based. I don't know what else it haves though

The company who makes Coolstance also makes a supplement called Powerstance...Coolstance is the feed product they have and Powerstance is the supplement. Powerstance is pure powdered coconut oil. I fed it for years, but I moved away from my dealer and it got more difficult for me to get and I quit using it. It was a really good supplement and had a lot of benefits. I believe the company is Stance Equine, they used to have a website, you might check them out.

I feed coconut oil to my horses... 1/3 cup daily... I buy it in bulk and put it in a baby bottle warmer and mix with their oats. It's not any more expensive than Healthy Coat and I get great results. My gelding has allergies and he does fine on the coconut oil.

Renew Gold uses coconut meal in it's formulation. This contributes about 9% coconut oil in it's natural state, not as a refined oil. I am not a fan of refined oils added to a diet, but love them in their natural state.

I just started Renew Gold. I was feeding coconut flakes but they were expensive and had to be mixed w/ other stuff. My one horse LOVES the RG and the other absolutely refused to eat it no matter what, go figure.
