My coming 5 yr gelding is really giving me a hard time for just about everything when it comes to riding. He has gate issues but will run a nice pattern. Very cold backed. Swishes his tail when going to the right won't bend properly unless I really enforce it. Pins ears when I ask him to move out or even just lope. He absolutely hates everything about being ridden. Sweet as can be when on the ground.
Now what's been done already.
Hocks injected
Stifles injected
Right front ankle was sore was injected months ago and isn't sore on it anymore
Teeth are good
Back xRay in case of kissing spin clear
Chiropractor clear
Saddle fits
Blood work panel clear
Hair analysis and herbs
(didn't make a difference
)
Treated for ulcers
Ran as a "bleeder " and not.
Have given pain meds when running him.
He will walk in with someone walking him. Hasn't always been like this.
Had west Nile as a 2 yr
Not burnt out and shouldn't be sour. We don't run every weekend.
Do NOT comment unless you have helpful tips.
What else could be wrong. I feel it's something on the right side of him with the way he acts
I've had him checked by my local vet and a VERY well known and highly used vet and both are scratching their heads at this point.
Have just bought sole BOT stuff. Blanket quick wraps and hocks boots.

Sounds like he's just smart and has figured out how to get you to let up. It usually builds up to bigger behavior problems. Even if it started with being sore, some of them pick up pretty quick on the idea that when they refuse, you give them the reward of stopping for the day.

I have stopped stopping lol. I work his BUTT more, because I feel like I've ruled out the most obvious things that oh wrong with them.
Trust me he would rather behave himself than be a butt head. :/

He hasn't always been this way. He used to love being ridden and would get excited when he got to the gate.

He's been treated for EPM too it's been a year or so thou. Also 2 cold water spa treatments.
I have been treating mine for EPM for about 3 1/2 years now. I think he has had about 6 rounds of meds now.
Also, horses can develop ulcers in a matter of minutes. Just because you treated the horse does not mean that he does not have them again. Same with EPM.

I would turn him out for a year and resume after that. I can't imagine pouring that much treatment Into a 5 year old.
Have you had legs xrayed? What about SI soreness?

Yes X-ray legs.
No about the SI joint. I can look into that also.
I will try and treat again for epm.

You said vet checked for epm
hes had alot done in 5 yrs of his life. If he acts fine on ground Id not suspect epm .. did you check his poll area as far as not bending..
Has someone else rode him? what is his routine and diet? what is his work routine? have you worked basic slow work suppling and also outside things... trails etc.

What is his diet?
Try him on a PSSM diet. If you see improvement, you know you are on the right track.
There are two types of PSSM. The hair test is for
PSSM 1.

What are you treating with? There are several meds out there that only suppress the infection. Orogin seems to have the best results at this point and lesser incidence of relapse or need to retreat.

He eats costal hay full grass pasture when turned out and strategy and impact 14% sweet mixed because some of my other horses are picky
(why I mix the feed
). Cocoasoy oil for hair and shine.
I'm gonna try and treat for pssm and switch his feed.
Vitamin E suggested to feed with it.
No issues on the ground he runs and plays with the other horses.
