This is a stud horse I looked up. I think he looks really good but I know nothing about his bloodlines so if someone does I would really appreciate any info.

Well yes I could have told you that ;) I guess I was just wondering if anyone recognized any of the names on there and if they had accomplished anything.

I'm curious about the whole idea of outcrossing in my breeding...maybe not so much into other breeds but possibly more cowy bred quarter horses or possibly some thoroughbreds.

Did anyone read the article in Barrel Horse News about the quarter horse breed and the need for outcrossing??

You need to look at Ranger Cookie than......own son of Playgun...and I've seen him in person...that stud went out and kicked basically everyones butts at a jackpot one day. He can flat fly.

Yes, I did read the article. I also just looked up the pedigrees on the top 8 horses that won the American Slack.
Several of them have crosses to what I would call Cowbred or foundation lines. (Smart Chic Olena, Son O Sugar, Skipper W, Magnolia Bar, Doc Bar, Im a Freckles too, Docs Hickory & Diamonds Cross.)

So yes, I like a run/cowbred cross!!

Hey that is so cool that you found that info on the American slack! Good thinking! Thank you for you information I really appreciate it :) I just feel like sometimes we are getting a little carried away with our breeding programs and we need to mix it up a bit. That is had to do though because I think it could effect resale value in the long run...people want proven not so much a chance. Thanks again

You have ALOT of old cow way back. Nothing up close, but personally I love the old cow lines.
What alot of poeople fail to think about is Doc Bar may be associated with cutting, but he was bred to be a race horse. Most PSB have some speed as well.
Poco Bueno lines usually cant outrun a fat man for a lolli pop, but when crossed with run, they throw in bone, athletic ability and grit.
Cross him on something with some speed and I bet she will give you a barrel baby for sure.
As a previous poster stated, they want all run....
Not me, you cant give me a running bred horse. I would take cow horse lines over running any day. So it will all be up to your personal preference of what you like.

My horses have Doc Bar and Freckles Playboy. I would not trade them for the world. They are athletic, smart and fun to ride. Plus they look good. I love cow bred!

Give me a cow/run cross anyday over an all cow or all run!  I have had many of both and get along with cow/run cross better.  The all cow/cutting horses we have owned have been hotter than anything else I have ever been on.

I don't recognize anything close in this horses pedigree, everything I know is way back there.

These are 2 of my favorite horses I have ever ran...

He was a cool dude!  We didn't get him until he was 21 but he could still run with the best of them.  I ran him until he was 27 and then my little sister took him over for a little bit.  He was retired at 29 and lived until 35.  One of the hardest days of my life was putting him down.

I will see if I can find some pictures and videos of him.

Dry Doc was Doc O Lena's full brother. Dry Doc was a very good cutting horse like Doc OLena, but was not as good a sire as Doc OLena.
