With all of the feed fiasco going on ive decided I'd like to switch my mare to alfalfa pellets. My question is can I do just alfalfa and maybe a vitamin supplement? She is on a roundbale 24/7 that is not the best nutrition. She isn't really being worked now but will be here soon in the warmer months. So is alfalfa enough for her? Add a vit/min supplement? She is not a hard keeper, not an easy keeper. Pretty middle of the ground.

So do I absolutely need a grain or can I just do alfalfa and add in stuff?

Just not knowing what all is in a pellet is scary.

And is Standlee a good, safe company?

Yes Standlee is good. I feed Timothy pellets, renew gold and chia seeds to my gelding and he looks good. I am going to add THE next month when I start riding again. He is also on a coastal/blue stem round bale 24/7.

Awesome. I am also contemplating the renew gold. I called their office today to find out more info but no response yet. I am hoping to get my feed store to carry it and then maybe do the alfalfa as well. Would a horse that is resting more now be ok with this set up?

If you don't want to do renew gold what would be a good all around vitamin?

Mine that are out on a round bale are getting 3 lbs Standlee alfalfa pellets twice a day, along with 1 lb of Renew Gold. They have a mineral block, I'm also supplementing SmartGI Ultra, but that's it. They look like movie stars.

I have not fed grain for several years.  I feed alfalfa, vitamins and renew gold and a couple of supplements.  I used to put the RG and other stuff in soaked molasses free beet pulp but switched to chaffhaye as it is a cleaner and more nutritious product then beet pulp.

Renew gold is not a vitamin/mineral supplement. But it will dern sure take the hay belly off one. It helps keep the digestive tract working at high effiency so that your jorse can better utilize the feed/hay nutrients. That is how I understood it, but when win gets back with you ask him. I followed his advice and my boy looks soo much better!

I feed a vitamin/mineral supplement with the renew gold.  RG is a GREAT product.    Last year I brought one out of retirement to go run poles at a big show.   Since he was retired he was not getting the "extras" or RG.  Two months prior to the show I started him on RG  and in the middle of summer he went from a faded black/brown to his dark black winter color and he was full of energy- made me want to bring him back full time :)- he looked and felt great.

I'm checking with my local feed store to see if they can get it since they carry manna pro products. I am waiting on a call back. The closest carrier for me is a TSC over 40 minutes away. My TSC that is 3 miles from my house said I'd have to buy the whole pallet to get it in.... And I only have one horse so that wouldn't work. I think I've made the decision to do RG and alfalfa pellets once I can get a supplier lined up for the RG. I am waiting on a call back from the renew gold office as well to figure out what exactly I need to feed for my mares activity level.

I wanted to switch to this last year but the lady that was in my feed store at the time told me I was crazy for wanting to switch my mare to a feed that you only feed 1 lb of a day, instead she put me on Omelene 500...! Yeah quickly got off of that. My mare was a nut.
