Location: Riding Crackhead. | Doc Bar is in my favorite horses pedigrees but he's been gone so long his name gets awful far down the papers. IMO he's so far down your horses pedigree it really doesn't make much difference. They are tough gritty horses. |

I had never truly hated a horse... until him. He would work 10 times harder to get out of working then he would if he just did what you wanted. He would wait until you got good and comfortable on him then he would blow up. Sent him to a trainer and he had the same problem. Had a friend ride him that starts horses for a living and after a week was told how nice he was, maybe it was just me, he wanted to buy him etc. I was supposed to go out the next morning so the guy could watch me ride him. He called me before i got there, said he just blew up with him, come pick him up cause he was nasty.I know doc bar isnt very close in his pedigree but every time i hear doc bar i think of him and i do not want to go that route again.I know it isnt fair to judge them all on one horse, but there are plenty of other lines out there for me to choose from. |

Location: Willows, CA | I loved Doc Bar bred brood mares for cow horses. He was special, but you are right that his influence is pretty diluted these days. They were great, easily trained horses with a lot of heart. As for making a barrel horse, I don't think it matters much to have him on the papers that far back, except for the fact that he bred a lot of good mares. There may be some positive influence from that. |

Location: Montana | I think, for the most part, you'll have a hard time finding a cowbred horse without Doc Bar. You never know...I wouldn't mind trying her on barrels. My mare only goes back to Doc Bar twice (I think), both times pretty far back there, and she does well on barrels. She won't ever be really fast, but I love her. She can be a little difficult, but mostly when she is in heat. Good luck! |

| I just bought this mare in the middle of the season last year. She won the 1D reserve buckle in our district for me. If I can stay with her and leave her alone she clocks near the top every time. I love her no nonsense gritty attitude! She's 21 this year so I will probably stick with the pens she likes and hit a few rodeos this summer!

Location: 100 miles from Nowhere, AR | The ones I had were either really good or really nasty. The double bred I had was a granddaughter of Doc's Prescription and g-granddaughter of Doc O Lena--bucker from hell that had rather see blood than sweat. All of them were hot. |

Location: Adopt a homeless pet - www.petfinder.com! | Angelo was a Doc Bar grandson and very athletic and had a big heart. He could be hot though and required patience. When I hear from people who don't like them, that's the reason why. I didn't have a problem with it, depends on what type of person you are and what you want to deal with. |

| Thanks everyone! I actually bought her for my husband to pick up on, but he doesn't think she is big enough. So I figured why not at least start her on barrels. She will be used on the ranch mostly. She does seem like the kind that could get hot if barrels was all she did. We will see! I've had a couple of Doc Bar horses, but just trail rode one and the other one was sold to a stock contractor! They both had Doc Bar on their papers... |

Location: In a happy place | My stud was by Streakin Six and out of an own daughter of Genuine Doc. He was not hot at all. Little children could ride him. So I have no problem with Doc Bar being in the pedigree. |

| My Doc Bar was pretty hot but VERY gritty and gave 110%. She WOULD buck sometimes though - not on the pattern but just riding. |
