We stay overnight at quite a few rodeos during the year and normally tie to the trailer, most places don't have stalls. I would like a set of portable panels but would need a minimum of 2 sets and that gets pricey. Plus I don't like the idea of my horse not being secured to something when we're parked in the middle of a city.
Have any of you used a HiTie or something similar? I could afford 2 or 3 or those for the price of a portable corral and they have a lot more freedom that just being tied to the trailer. It is connected to the trailer the exact same way a tie ring is, but how sturdy is the arm that extends? The two horses that spend the night most often are pretty laid back dudes, of course T-Bo being a little more silly than my fiance's heading horse- it's always the barrel horse, right? LOL. But he normally is fine overnight, he learned last year to just go to sleep. It actually helped him calm down a lot and enjoy his break, made the trailer a "happy place".

Ok, getting off subject!!
Please give me some insight, reviews of any trailer tying system you've used. Thank you!!

If we don't have stalling we carry electric fence.  I don't want them tied to the trailer, I want them to rest.  JMO

Agreed.  And I want "me" to sleep.  Horses tied to the trailer make a ton of noise and even rock it.

I guess we have odd horses because the only night I was kept awake was the first night we stayed overnight and kept waking up worried LOL.  I never hear them make a peep.
I'm afraid of electric fencing because what if something spooks them and that run through it or get over it.  It's not like they have a large area, it's more like a stall.  Part of me likes them being attached to the trailer because if they move it enough to wake me, something is going on.  I would like for them to be able to lie down if they want, which is what these systems promote.
Thanks guys.  The electric fence is something I have really debated on bc I know people who use it, but I just haven't gotten brave enough.

With anything they can try to run through if they really get spooked.

I have had the Tilt Tie, a Spring Tie, and now a Hi Tie on different trailers over the years.

I have had a horse test the crap out of that Spring Tie and never an issue. If they are mounted correctly they will not have a problem.

Now...I prefer the Hi Tie because I like the way it has more options for mounting (Arm back, forward or down when stowed). That helps you to be able to put it where you want it and where you have the proper support for mounting.

I have used it for several years and it is fantastic. I use a nifty tie rope/attachment system that another competitor in my current sport makes and sells. They allow for a quick release in an emergency and use a soft cotton rope to attach to the halter.

All of the horses I have had on it for weekend events have been relaxed and able to lie down at night. It gives them the equivalent of a small round pen as far as space to move. I sleep very well at night with them on it.

Now...I'm a gadget nerd...so i also have a Trailer Eyes camera that I use mounted to the side of the trailer so that I can watch on the monitor from my bed at night. I position it so that I can see the horse and his hay bag etc. I know if he bumps the trailer...what he is doing...if he lays down...if he needs more hay etc. Really handy deal.

I have pictures i can upload if anyone wants to see them. I have one of the horse on a Spring Tie, and the Hi tie...maybe even the tilt Tie. But I'm not crazy about the bulky Tilt Tie really.

Yes, please upload the pictures!!  I found the attachment you are talking about through HorseTrailerWorld.  I am very interested in that since it does have a quick release option, although I was wondering how easy it would be for a horse to undo it themselves.  Thank you everyone!

We tie to the trailer, but I have always tied long so they can lay down if they want to.  Not long enough they can get a foot in, but enough they can get their nose on the ground if they decide to lay down.

I have been thinking about getting an electric pen, but I haven't done it yet.  My horse will not roam too far even if she did get out (I could leave a halter on her and let her lose and she wouldn't leave the trailer), but the calf horse says FREEDOM and takes off. LOL.

Horses adapt pretty well, and as long as you give them some down time away from the trailer (in the arena or on a long line) they are fine.

IMO tied to a trailer is the equivilant to being in a stall.  The only time I get to worrying is if we are gone for more than 3 days.  In that case I will find a pen or area to turn them out for a night.

Here is the Spring Tie.  Note that I adjust the line to where the halter clip does not touch the ground.  This allows him to graze but not get a foot over it without being a complete goober.  He has been a goober in his youth...but Never has he been able to get a foot over.

This is my Hi Tie.  I love it.  He does too.  The special quick release clasp mid way up the line is really an item used in boats/sailing rigging.  It swivels and no...I have never had a horse be able to undo it.  The biothane top part makes it easy to adjust the height.

I would have to dig to find any pics of the Tilt Tie...that was a looong time ago.  But again...I really didn't care for it.

The attachment system I use is made by a lady named  PhotoBy Jonni  on FB.  They are far better than the ones the tack places sell for these hi ties.

Well...I like the Hi Tie best. And since I've used all 3 now...I can really compare. It is lighter than the Spring Tie so it's easier for me to use...it is a more sleek design so it works in more mounting locations. I don't have to remove the arm to travel...just flip it back against the trailer and secure with the pin. So THAT is much simpler.

You can mount it multiple ways depending on the configuration of your trailer's windows etc. That is a plus for sure.

I totally understand your fear.  My horses are in hot fences here at home so they respect them.  I'm going to say this.  Since I was a very small girl it was beat into my head that if your going to tie a horse up do it short enough they can't get a leg over the lead.  I see people tying long and to some crazy crap and it drives me insane.  Call me kookie or old fashioned.  I was raised by an old cowboy though.

I've seen horses blast through pretty much anything if riled enough.  Mine are so used to the hot fences that it doesn't bother them.
