So I wanna know yall's craziest barrel racing/ rodeo stories.
one of mine would have to be when I first bought my mare, I ran her for about 2 months to the right and she kept having problems with the first barrel so we took her to a Martha Josey clinic. That helped a little. I finally asked the original owner to send me a video of her running this mare and guess what! she runs to the left! go figure. she went through 2 owners who couldn't figure out the problem and it was as simple as changing directions!! Anyways, I want to hear your craziest/ funniest stories!!

Goat tying in knee deep mud! The goat couldn't move, but neither could I! Lost my splint boots that day, and about three pairs of bell boots.

I was running my futurity colt and we went in and our entire run fell apart. He went from being at the top of the 1D to he was the very last place. Needless to say I was devastated because I immediately thought that there was something wrong with him. My husband listened to me complain and go on and on about this when I finally looked at him and went "well aren't you going to say anything?!??!?!" He simply looked at me and said " he would have clocked just fine had you went to the right barrel first.." I simply looked at him just flabbergasted I could believe that I did that I just went in and headed to the left barrel instead of the right!

I was know at the local riding arena who had the horse that would try and jump the barrel instead of just hitting it! Sucker never his a barrel in the 6-7 years I ran him! I still have it on video of him doing that! ?? also what I ran 4-he same horse shut down on his front end and catapulted me on top his neck going into second. I was hangin upside down hung my spur in the cantle of the saddle, managed to crawl back up while he was still running finish the pattern and still qualify for state!?? have that one on video too!!!

A friend of mine was running poles and coming up off the first pole her horse turned so hard that she came out of the saddle and landed in front of it. By the next pole she somehow got back in the saddle and finished her pole run and won the class. That was crazy!!

I was running poles on my mare and she turned the end and slipped and spun and smacked into the pole right between her eyes and she just stood there for a second like " what just happened?!?!" then went on her merry way. It was to funny !

When I was a teenager my dad was sitting by the fence next to the second barrel drinking beer, when I got to the back side of the second barrel my mare slid down completely and all four legs slid under the fence hitting my dads lawn chair sending him and his beer into the air! Nobody was hurt, even the horse was fine! It had been raining and the ground had a hidden slick spot under it! I will never forget that, my dad has since past away but I will always have that special memory, even though it was a hot mess lol!

Most of my crazy stories involve the ground and a beat up body.

5yo - Fell off under a mare on a lunge line.  Got a cut on my head.  Bled on brand new emergency room floor. Proudly sported 4 stitches.  (my brain must have leaked out then. LOL)

12yo -  running home from 3rd. Horse typically circled. Ran to gate and stopped.  Saddle flipped up and flipped me off.  Landed on steel rail of fence across mid back and broke the fence. Still have bruising in my spine from that.  Now I always have a back cinch.

17yo - Run going well, still don't know what happened.  Horse turned 2nd and I didn't.  Hip inch higher on right than left one.

Mid 20s - Horse went to turn 1st barrel in deep, deep sand.  Stuck his front feet and they never came out.  We tipped over, I twisted myself all goofy to avoid landing on the barrel.  Popped ribs out.  OUCH.  Went from running 2D/3D to like barely making 5D.  Bought a helmet.  Moved on and started clocking again.   Discovered my bounce wasn't quite as good at that age.

37 - Stupid horse bucked me off. No bounce at all. Landed on super hardened clay.  Severe nerve damage to left hip.  Nothing broken, but hip is still numb over a year later. Sold my first horse, who's now a baby maker.

Mom and I almost exactly 20 yrs apart, same saddle, same bit, different horses, different arena, but both ran left, had them turn inside out so fast on the first barrel no one but us knew what happened, Mom was at a AQHA show and I was at a local jackpot. Everyone was yelling at us to keep going.

When I was a kid I turned my Dads Calf horse into a show horse. We were at a local show and the showmanship judge walked by and smacked her clipboard with her hand, in turn the horse when flying backwards, she was yelling at me to let go, I was yelling at her that I knew what I was doing with him. I got him stopped, she decided SHE needed to teach him a lesson and went to go put the chain over his nose, I pushed her away and walked out of the class, told her you are not ruining my Dads calf horse. Later that year I ran across her again, I did not place in a single class. And she told my Mom in the parking lot, I needed to learn manners.

After almost suffocating myself with a stampede string, not to mention running blinded to the 3rd barrel before i got the hat whipped around to the back I pulled my stampede string off and since it was a $25 fine if you lost your hat before the timing light ( I believe they made that  rule because of all the girls that would "wear" thier hat in and shake it off as they took off which then they had to have someone pretty much as the official hat picker upper) I stuffed my hat band with the only thing I had with me at the time which was panty liners.  Pulled my hat down over my ears basically and made a run, probably one of the best ones I've ever made in my life and lost my hat just as I pulled up.  Time is announced and I pumped my fist, big goofy smile on my face and then felt something weird on my forehead...you guessed it, panty liner stuck to my forehead!!!

Then another run, my mare had gotten hurt several months before and her first run back she took out the 2nd barrel so hard (plastic barrel thank GOD) that is ended up in the roping return alley.  Barrel setter literally had to climb the fence to retrieve the barrel, LOL!!!

My favorite crazy story is;

The first was at  little jackpot and as I was coming around the first barrel the little leather bindings on my lativo strap broke and I landed om my feet with my barrel saddle between my legs(my feet still in the stirrrups) and in a state of WTF just happened I watched my made complete the barrel pattern withiut me. The announcer came on and told me that my time would have been a 16:38 which would have landed me in the money. My mare stood by the gate just looking at me with this What are you doing over there look.

When I was a kid, we would go to a local satruday night rodeo and dance - one night I rounded third, lost my stirrups and kicked off both my boots on the way home.

Run and Rate OMG thanks for the LOL.  I did something a little bit more drastic when I was younger and wore those Kotex and it came out the back.  Luckily at the time my husband (at the time now an X) was out setting up barrels and he picked it up.

These are fantastic! Love them. Here's mine:

A friend and I entered an indoor rodeo, 4 hours from where we live. It was beautiful when we left (April / May in Alberta, Canada). Day of the rodeo jumped in the truck and headed north. As we got closer to our destination I noticed there weren't any other trucks & trailers headed the same direction - which I thought was odd, but you never know. Anyway... reached our destination, and stopped at a gas station to find out where the rodeo was, only to find out the indoor rodeo was cancelled because the ground was rain on before they had a chance to put it inside. Nice 8 hour round trip, especially when we drove through a snow storm on the way home. This was back in the day when you had to call-in to enter rodeos and because we didn't enter the next rodeo we didn't find out the first one was cancelled.

To top it off on April 1, the following year, I recieved a fine from the association for not paying my fees for the cancelled rodeo. I had to call the association to find out if it was real, or an April fools joke. It was real.

I was entered in the barrel racing and team roping at a semi-local ammy rodeo.  I got there, loped two circles in the arena before the rodeo, then went to the trailer and unsaddled my barrel horse.  Told the hubby NOPE not happening.  There were only 3 other girls entered anyway.  It was bad muddy (not usually a big deal) but the arena had sinkholes where trees were at one time.  You would be riding along and just step off in one.  It was pretty okay in the middle of the arena, so I went ahead and roped.   The barrel racing was right after the team roping, and the secretary hollered down from the announcers stand while I was waiting to rope "hey, the other girls said to 3-call them and turn them out".  It was a call-in rodeo, so you had to pay your fees even if you didn't run.  I told her "you tell them to call my name out".  I then proceeded to lope my head horse through the barrel pattern with my rope under my arm and "win" the barrel race

A few folks were like "I didn't know he runs barrels too!"  Well, he doesn't, but he rides around good enough I can lope him through without much trouble lol.

When I sold him I had a few people from that night tell me I should advertise him as a "rodeo money earner" barrel horse.  Not exactly a lie, but I wouldn't do it anyway.
