| I am trying to compare height my 2 y/o filly - I dont have a measuring stick, but I did check with a measuring tape. It shows shes about 13.3 hands and maybe 650-700 lbs. I dont feel the tapes are very accurate when it comes to weight.... She is FWF and Pure D Dash bred.
Would you say she is too small? Or is she average for a 2 year old?? I never had any babies before so I am not sure what "average" is. |

| Hmmm... I must have a shorty. She wasn't properly weaned when I picked her up and she got really sick when we got her home. Maybe that has something to do with it. Who knows!! Hope she grows taller as this year and next year go along. |

| Mine is probably only a little shy of yours. Her mom is around 14.2 on her tippy-toes, and she is just a little smaller than that.
Mom & dad are both on the smaller side though, so I didn't expect a monster. |

Location: Oklahoma & Texas | My soon to be 2 yr old (next month) Fuel Charger X Rear Drive (Bully Bullion daughter) is 15.2 but stud was 16 hands and dam is 15.2.. she's still growing but slowing down thank God lol.. but in my experience they will keep growing taller til they're atleast 3 and then they widen out til they are 4 or 5.. soo yours still growing I'm sure! There is a way to measure them to get close to approximate mature height -
"To get an idea of mature size, stand the young foal squarely on a level surface (this will go much more smoothly if the foal has been halter-broken, leads well, and is controlled by a helper). Hold one end of a tape at the foalβs elbow and measure the distance to the ground. Double this measurement and you have an idea of how tall the mature horse will be.
For a weanling that is four to six months old, measure from the elbow to a point about halfway between the ground and the young horseβs fetlock. Double this measurement to get the weanlingβs final height.
When using this method on a yearling horse, measure from the elbow to a point about one-fourth of the way from the fetlock to the ground, and double this measurement. "

Location: Got Lobsta? | I am glad you posted this question, as I have been wondering too. Mine is 14.3 about 750 - she's really lean. She's a SOF and her mom is only 14.2 so I am happy with her size. |

IMO, if they don't look good, that's the only thing to worry about. l have one that is known to continue to grow until they are 7! Environment can play a huge roll on intitial growth but as owners we can help that along with proper nutrition/deworming. I have a 3 yr old now that is probably 15 1/2 hands weighs about 1000 pounds-he's not fat or fit. As a 2 year old he was 14 hands and 800 pounds, he looked better. I've had him since he was weaned and was fed the best futurity blend feed I could find and excellent hay and he's sure blossomed into a good looking booger!
The one that grew until he was 7 was maybe 13 hands as a 2 year old and weighed 650-he was ugly. Now at 12 hes just about 15 hands and weighs about 1100-and you can bounce a quarter off of him anywhere :)
Worrying about size now is not time well spent, worry about keeping them alive and polite! :) |

| Mine is 15-1. Her sister was the same height at two.
Measuring tapes are not very accurate. |

Location: Way up North | I haven't sticked mine yet but I know he is over 15 hands because he is bigger than the gelding I run. He is pretty thick boned and developed for a 2 yr old. I do not grain mine up, they are on pasture all summer and a round bale all winter with a licktub freechoice, they only get grained when they are put into work or start to look like their current diet isn't keeping up with their needs. As others have said I would worry less about height and more about their overall appearance. |

| Her health and appearance are just fine (maybe on the chunky side, but so am I ha-ha)... I was just hoping when she matures she will be about 15 to 15.2 hands. I guess only time will tell! |
