I'm seeing a lot of trophy saddles for sale. Some are very nice but I would feel weird buying someone's trophy saddle. Like maybe people will think I won that or people I know will think I'm trying to look like I did when I didnt. So I stear clear of trophy saddles.

Do do you feel weird or pass on them?

I pass because 90% of the time they are cheaper made quality wise and material wise. Most saddle makers have a "trophy line" and they use cheaper leather, different trees, etc..

If it was one that I knew the maker, the tree, and I KNEW it was good quality because I could talk to the maker then I'd snatch it up. If it fit my horse it'd probably be a heck of a deal if my above conditions were met. No one cares about if your ridding in a trophy saddle and if they do then they probably are drama laden anyway. If its a deal, its quality, and it fits why would you care what anyone thought?

I just bought one last year because it was exactly what I was looking for. Didn't really care too much for the signage on it, priced new fenders for it and they were over $350. Think I will be riding in the fenders that came on it. I don't really care what other people think so not a real problem for me. It was top quality.

I've had no trouble selling them...

we had a bob marshall from ANHA and we just don't use sports saddles.. someone got a really nice, blinged out bob marshall with minimal lettering on it for a good price.

i try and keep most of our trophy saddles but sometimes we will sell one here or there. I know some people buy them because it happens to fit their horse and they don't care about the letters.

If you like the saddle ant it's what you want, what does it matter what people think? Who cares in all honesty, as long as you are happy with it then go for it. If it bothers you all that much get new fenders if that's the only place of writing.

It doesn't bother me.  I'm always appreciative for any prizes, but I sell saddles when I win one.  Take a couple of pics and down the road it goes.  We don't have much room to store stuff, and I refuse to keep anything around that I"m not using daily.  I doubt anyone cares about it.  If there was a trophy saddle with a tree/fit I wanted, I'd snap it up.  What other people think doesn't matter to me.

I've never sold one, and I don't look down on those that do. I just think it undermines the effort of myself, and the effort of those who provided it.

Whenever I see someone riding in a trophy saddle, I never assume they won it anyway since you see so many for sale. So I guess it wouldn't bother me to buy one.

I don't really care one way or the other. If it works for me and my horse I'd buy it. If it's on a horse that didn't win it, I honestly have enough to worry about in my life not to care about what's on your horses back.

I purchased a winter blanket that was a trophy from some finals of team roping in vegas, really nice lettering machine sewn on each side. It is extremely heavy and would definately cost me over $200 to get a winter blanket this thick and nice. It had never been used. I purchased it from a lady who had purchased the blanket and trophy horse trailer from the guy who won them. I paid $50 for it brand new!!! It did create some jealously at the horse barn I was boarding at when I purchased it. I would always fold it and put it in my tack trunk when not being used. I went to the barn one morning to find it in my horses run stomped into the mud with rips in it. I know for a fact I put it away because it was to warm to wear that night. I had to end up leaving that boarding facility due to these type of actions and damage to my trailer and mysterious injurys to my horse etc... My point is that you can get AWESOME deals on trophy items and it is well worth it, but some people WILL be negative towards you out of jealously. I personally ride to have fun so I don't care what people ride in!

I sold mine so I would have money to buy a saddle I could actually use.  It hurt my hips to ride it, so it would have sat in the attic collecting dust forever.

I would buy one if the quality was good and fit my horse. They seem to always sell pretty cheap.

I'm usually the type to not care but for some reason that kept popping in my head as I would see them. I guess you guys are right...I have seen a few good quality ones pretty cheap.

My hubby bought a scott thomas  roping saddle a couple years ago brand new for less than $700!  Hubby felt a little weird about it until he realized how nice it fit his horses and how nice it fit him!

normally trophy saddles are not made in my seat size, otherwise, I would buy them.  But, I'm a cheapskate!

I've bought, sold, and ride in trophy saddles. Doesn't bother me either way. Doesn't bother me what people think of it either. I actually rode a 1D very consistent stallion in a trophy saddle that I won years ago with Youth 4D champ on the fender :) It for sure didn't change the way he ran lol

No I don't mind one if its good quality. If you don't like it get one that has the writing on the fenders and replace them.

Do do you feel weird or pass on them?

If I see someone who is starting out or coming up in the ranks with a trophy saddle that they probably didn't win, my first thought is usually that someone has been a good friend to them and is letting them borrow the saddle.  It's not uncommon in my area for people to let others borrow their trophy saddles until they can have one custom made or otherwise purchase another saddle when they move on up.

Edited to add:   I wouldn't pass one of up though if it was a good saddle and it was for sale.
