| How much does it cost to put an equine swimming pool in? Ball park? Just wondering...

| Did some calling around....base price on a swimming pool, you're looking at about 100K.
Underground aquatreads, same story, kind of the 90-100k base.
Above ground treadmills, 80-100k-ish.
Basically, you can spend as much money as you want for the features. The sky is the limit.
Very interesting! I'm thinking of a full fledged facility, and so this is all very good to know! Just thought I'd share. |

Did some calling around....base price on a swimming pool, you're looking at about 100K.

I bought a Horse Gym treadmill with an incline and that will trot for $35,000. Brand new last fall. Love it |

| I did talk to an actual pool builder. It's not so much the excavation or concrete (which is expensive whatever way you go, concrete is spendy), but the heavy filtration system, added with pumps, heavy plumbing, etc. The equipment is where it bites ya. |

Yes, that's exactly what I was told. Obviously, you're going to be able to dumb it down, but to get something that is really manageable that can handle 10-15 horses daily, as well as a size that is effective, it's going to get expensive quickly. |

Location: Oklahoma | Well, thanks for getting prices for us!! I have always wondered. I could get the dirt work for free, but I don't have any means of getting discounted prices on concrete and swim parts! 
I did the math... and to get the bottom of the line system for $90k I'd have to aquatred my gelding everyday for 7.71 years to break even with what I'm paying a day for him to swim right now.
Maybe if I buy him some swim shoes he can swim in my pool at the house and he won't puncture the liner! |

| I agree, it's not something that one just jumps out and buys for private use, unless you've got more money than God. I think for a business start up, it's something that isn't completely outrageous, especially if you've got a good business plan and are willing to expel the sweat necessary to keep clients happy! |

Location: MI | I worked for Shiawassee Farms with Standardbreds and they had a pool that we swam harness horses with daily. Theirs had a hot walker arm in center that was free moving. We would put a headrope attached to a pvc pipe and a snap on end. We would then braid a rope into their tail with about 12 feet of rope hanging. We would walk one down the ramp and throw the rope with the pvc pipe over the arm and snap it up. Then once the horse was in would swing the tail end rope over the hook on the next arm of walker and pull them tight between the arms so they couldnt hit the sidewalls. Worked great except for the ones who learned how to float and let others drag them around, so then we'd have to motivate them to swim. lol
Next I worked for Iron Mill Farms in Collinsville. Lonnie just took a existing tank that was on property, dredged and killed all fish in it, put in limestone around shore to change ph of water, then built a ramp to walk down, and a anchored dock with a drawbridge for us to circle with the horse swimming. It worked ok, but we were fortunate to never have one that couldnt swim. I had noticed from my time at Shiawassee that the fitter the horse is with less body fat, the harder it is for them to swim as they arent as buoyant. |

Location: Nowhere Special | I have a small creek and pond on my place and I was thinking about trying to do something with it.. I'm more thinking of using the part of the creek that is about chest deep on a horse and 80 feet long and just walking them thru it.. Poor mans underwater treadmill.. IDK if it would work but for about $50 worth of dirt work and some weedwacking I'm fixin to find out.. LOL
