| Which vaccinations do you get on a yearly basis? Which do you not believe in or use? Thanks! |

| For the retirees I vaccinate with Eastern, Western, Tetanus, and West Nile. The broodmares and horses that we're hauling get that along with the Flu/Rhino. And broodmares also get the series of pneumabort. |

| Prestige 6way and West Nile. If you've ever seen horses dying from west nile, you'd vaccinate for it too. |

| Does no one vaccinate for rabies?! I'm truly curious about this. I realize it's not endemic in the wild animal population in all areas, but up here our vets strongly recommend it.
We typically do rabies, tetanus, rhino, WNV, EEE, and WEE for everyone. The horses that travel get influenza as well. Seems like something else is slipping my mind, but I can't for the life of me remember! |

fyi for anyone participating in 4-H in indiana for 2015 the minimum requirements are 5way E/W/T/F/R and rabies
also if you are unsure as to your horses immunites you can request a titers test to see what might need boostered. |

We do rabies yearly, mostly because we have skunks, fox etc, had a cow die from rabies, it's cheap protection.
We also do encephalitis tetanus and west nile. I'm on the fence about the flu and tend to do that every other year or so. |

We do a 5-way and Rabies, then WNV when it gets closer to season.
If you're vaccinating for Strangles, do a little research on the age groups it's recommended for...in some rare instances it can cause Purpura. |

Location: Sunnyland Florida | No vaccinations for many, many years (over 30 years). I haul all over, stall out of town overnight frequently, etc. No illnesses over the past 30 years, many different horses. Have had horses next door die of West Nile (they were vaccinated). Mine didn't get it.

| I typed my response before seeing a couple others that said they vaccinated for rabies. I was just really surprised not to see it listed in the first few responses. It's so prevalent here in our wild animal population that I couldn't imagine not vaccinating for it.
Strangles is one that I go back and forth on, and still want to do some more research on. We've had one come home from an event with it though, and the treatment was positively miserable for him, so I have stuck with it so far. |

| My vet never recommended rabies, and it just doesn't seem to be very common in our area so I don't vaccinate for it. We don't vaccinate for strangles either. Again, it's never been recommended to us and I don't feel like it's something we need to do for our horses. We did send a horse to the feed yard and she came home with strangles. Her case wasn't bad compared to other stories I've heard, but she did drop weight and didn't feel well. She was quarantined and none of our other horses came down with it. |

Same here. I may get one with a little cough or a boogery nose, but none of the other horses usually catch it. I just treat with what they need and they do fine. All my horses have been much healthier than those that got vaccinated regularly in the past. |
