Location: Oklahoma & Texas | I am needing to sedate a gelding I have - and am thinking about trying that new gel - the oral one that is sort of like most dewormers - comes in a tube and you insert under tongue? Has anyone used /tried this and how well did it work? Any weird side-effects? My vet has it and said they've had good results with it - just wondering compared to like Ace or other sedatives how well it worked.... I have ACE and thats usually what i use if i need to sedate one but this seems a little easier?
(Reason for sedating is - dont laugh....he has severe separation anxiey - to the point of will make himself colic when i remove a certain mare from his "herd"... he will literally run himself into the ground and then tie up... have to do this anytime i take this mare away for any period of time... she's going to be bred and so when i first take her/load her up and go i usually sedate him to avoid all of that).... dont ask.. he's cray cray but i've had him since he was a weanling (he's 15 now lol) and he's an own son of corona cartel soooo i've put up with it lolol.. and this is the only mare he does this with - which is also weird considering i've only had her 3 years.. but he's in love i guess lolol..

| I have used it as well. We used it once when we branded and we had decent results...easy to administer. We used it on 5 horses, the dosage the vet said to use, and two out of the 5 didn't get sedated enough, plus you have to wait several minutes for it to kick in...not near as fast acting as ACE so we went back to using ACE. Didn't have any side effects with the Dormosedan Gel though. For babies it worked great. I would definitely recommend trying it, if he responds to it, then it would be a lot easier than administering ACE. |

Location: South MS | I love it. I have a moody, evil mare that I use it on when it's time to shoe her. She hates needles. It calms her down enough without any side effects. The only downside (IMO) is that it takes a while to take affect (for her, a whole tube, about 40 minutes). |

Same here. I have a mare that you Can not give shots too at all. Tried a whole tube of the gel and in 45 mins, I had a perfect Angel that could have cared less that I was poking her with a needle, lol. Works great for my situation. |

Location: Wonderful Wyoming | Just used it when I took my pasture raised 3yr old in to have his teeth done. She stabbed him 3 times trying to sedate him IV, so when he finally had enough we put him in the clinic in the stocks. Stabbed him 3 more times. For GOD sake I knew she was fresh out of vet school, but I can hit the vein everytime just about from the start. So by then he had enough and was going to kill himself in the stocks so we took him back outside to give him the gel. It takes quite a bit of time to kick in but it does work great and I keep a tube at home for emergencies. |

Location: Southern Oregon | LOVE it.... Used it twice on my mare after I got her for shoes. The first time we pulled the shoes she had on, we noticed she had 3 old hot nail marks per hood. uggg took almost 6 hours to pull four shoes. Two times of using it and now she stands like a champ
