I'm looking to buy a trailer and I can't decide whether to go with one that has mangers or not.
I know they are good for storage, but are they the best for the horse?
Anyone have any experiences or thoughts they want to share?

I dont like mangers . I have had both and 8 wide trailers with them to.. I like my horses to put their heads down  if needed but also I like the extra room in horse stall.
I think though some like to feed in them .

We have had both and love mangers. I will say we do not do a lot of long hauls; if we do we stop and get the horses out. Don't know if that has anything to do with the folks that don't like them. (i e wanting them to have the ability to put their heads down)

Mangers! But only on an 8ft wide trailer. They are so nice for storage, feeding, everything.

Mangers! I have had both with and without and I wont buy another without. And honestly, I wait for someone to show me their horse puts his head down while traveling. They dont!  I also dont want hay bags to get tangled up in.

I have an 8 ft wide trailer with an 18" manger not the 24" and mine can put their head down while riding. They would not be able to with the deeper manger. I custom ordered my trailer this way

I like the extra storage that mangers offer. Also think of resale value. Many people prefer mangers. We offer 18" and 22" deep mangers at our plant.

no mangers for me. Mine keep their heads level and down every once in awhile. I put the hay on the floor because I don't trust them to not get tangled in a hay bag.

LOVE my mangers!  I have an 8' wide trailer and my horses have no problem getting their heads down either.  My husbands rope horse is 16h 1300lbs and he rides with his head down 85% of the time and has no problem.

Thats good to know, I have no idea why our horse travels with her head down all the time.

I also have a horse that is short that the managers are a tick tall for her, but she also is so small she can back her rear up and put her head wherever she pleases...  Even if she is not supposed too!

So for my short horses, the manager issue has never been an issue because they are normally short enough (body wise) that they don't have to stand with their head up all the time.

ALTHOUGH, if your trailer is not 8 wide then it could be an issue!  Ours are always 8 wide, besides our stock trailer.

We have a four horse with mangers. I love the ability to throw some feed in while trailering. The only issue I have started having, is that my 4 year old has decided he really likes chewing on the corner of them. :-(

Will never own another trailer without mangers! Love them for storage and ease in throwing a flake or two of hay up there. I always haul with some hay in front of my horses. Mine also do not have a problem getting their heads down. If hay falls out of the manger on to the floor they never have a problem cleaning it up.

I don't have mangers, because for long trips their heads and necks were not designed to be up. I miss the storrage space but put hay on floor and they  eat when traveling which is better on their stomachs (best way to pervent ulcers is to eat/ graze).
