What do you prefer?
I really like the look of straw, but I feel like felt might be heavier and stay on better?
But I feel like felt is for fancier people than me lol!
I guess my biggest concern is it staying on during a run! |

Location: Texas | Well "cowboy etiquette" is that you wear a felt hat between Labor Day and Easter, and wear a straw hat until Labor Day - which is usually fitting. If a hat fits right it the weight won't determine or keep it on your head.
Excuse that horrible spelling, my phone obviously isn't very smart.

Location: Loma Linda, CA | Lol yeah I heard that... just didn't know if there was a difference in the type of hat that stayed on the best. I've heard of some tricks... like a tampon? Will help the hat stay on and such.

Location: Phoenix | Straw in the summer, felt in the fall/winter. I have a super small head and Resistols usually come small enough (6 5/8). I line mine with panty liners to help them fit better. I also shove my head INTO the crown. It's imperative that you take it to a hat shaper to get it shaped. |

| Straw in the summer and felt in the winter. It absolutely drives me insane (yes, short trip), when I see somebody wearing a BLACK, felt hat when it's 110 degrees! |

Location: Midwest | I use bobby pins to hold mine on. I only have a nice Palm straw right now but plan on getting a felt later this year. I wore my straw last October to meet the dress code. I'm sure I got a few looks, but at the time I didn't want to spend the money on a hat for one show. |

Location: Buffalo, Wyoming | I never have issues with either my straws or felts staying on. The secert is to get them made for your head.
Before I started doing that there was no amount of toilet paper, bobby pins etc that could keep one on my head.
You do not have to special order one. I buy all my straw from American Hat Company and their reps make the ones that they have at shows fit me to a T. |

MEEEE!!!!
I can still wear the kiddie hats with the elastic! Lol right now I have a 6 3/4 Charlie 1 horse and I have the pull the back of the hat band down for it to fit. I pin it and I have only lost it once because I didn't shove it down on my head enough. I would love to get a Custom one made but for no more than I have to wear one I can't justify the money. I envy people with normal sized heads... |

| I honestly think that "hat etiquette" was made by arena cowboys. Growing up the only hat etiquette rules we had was: Always remove your hat during the National Anthem, Pledge of Allegiance, the Passing of the Flag, In Church, during a Prayer, an indoor Wedding, or a Funeral, You NEVER touch another man's hat without permission, Never lay a cowboy hat down on the brim,"Tipping" the hat is a sign of respect, men "never" tip their hat to another man, when sitting down at a table for a meal, the hat should come off, and in our house you never wore your everyday hat to church.... My grandpa always wore a black felt hat, my dad would wear which ever he felt like, he had several and it usually was a straw hat. I personally don't care what time a year it is, if you have a favorite hat wear it, summer, winter, ,spring or fall, wear the darn thing and remember the true etiquette of a cowboy hat. |

I love my felt hat, I don't own a straw hat but have a palm hat and it doesn't like the rain so I tend to always wear my beloved black felt. |
