Location: Sweet Home Alabama | Ok so I am paying my 2 four year Olds into the BFA in December. I know I can't run them for money or points until then. My question is, when I take them to local jackpots and horse shows, can I enter them up in money classes and just tell the announcer and/or people running the show that I'm just here to run and not interested in money or points? Or do I just have to do exhibition everywhere I haul? I kinda wanted to run them at a few PCA rodeos as well, to get them used to the excitement and noise. I'm not against Exhibitioning them but at a few places around here, you can only exhibition one horse a limited amount of times. So anybody got any input? |

| They are 4 now, and you want to run them at OKC, then are you going to 5 year old Futurity them in 2016?
If you are wanting to keep them eligible for 2016 futurities, do NOT enter them in a barrel race before Dec 1, 2015. Exhibition only |

| You can NOT enter anywhere. Exhibition only....
I'm assuming you mean your paying your now 3yr olds up in the juvenile? You would have had to pay them up last year as 3 yr olds for them to be eligible to run this year as 4yr olds. |

You can tell them to announce this is a money only run. However, if I was you, I would not.
But, if you do decide to, I would make sure that you have it all on video tape (which you keep forever) where you can hear the announcer say - this is a time only run. This is something that can come back and bite you. And, believe me, people will try and make you out to be a cheater. |

| If you are going to play days, horse shows, you can enter any other event except barrels and poles if you are planning on futuriting in poles.
I would not chance, I would just ask the producers to have a futurity exhibition class, if they are willing to announce a no points/money run, they should be able to do this for you |

| If they horses are 4 year olds now and you plan on running in Dec 2015, you can ENTER the horses as of Dec 1 of their 3 year old year. That would be Dec of last year. Most of the futurity candidates for the Dec 2015 are already running in futurities now.
If you are planning on running in futurities for 5 year olds you cannot enter them in any barrel races until Dec 1 of 2015.
Hope that clears things up. |

| This is what many entry forms that I have sent in say "The horse may have never competed for money, prizes or points
any time before December 1 of the previous year. ". A fellow trainer and friend told me that even if it is a bag of horse treats that you are competing for you are still competing for it and that can ruin an entire season. They have to only be exhibition until the year they are entered. Running them in rodeos would be the same as entering them in a barrel race. |

OKC is one where they MUST be paid in. You can not up and decide to run there you would have had to pay them in their 3 yr old year and 4 yr old year for them to run their 5yr old year just like ft smith. |

I am aware of this. I am paying them both in monthly. Started in January and ends June I believe. |

Also I've seen ppl throw a hissy fit in the office bc so and so rodeo girl ran their horse before a lil local rodeo started and it was posted on fb. Be careful not to get yourself into trouble like this and exhibition only. |

Location: WI | Here are your options. You can only run them in the Open BFA futurity ONCE. As a 4 or 5 year old. MOST people running at the BFA have been running all year, this is like their finals.
You can run them all year 2015 AND still eligible to run them in the 2015 BFA. The no compete date was 12/1/14
You can run him in the 2015 BFA, then futurity him 2016. BUT, you cannot enter him in the 2016 BFA.
If you want to run him in the 2015 BFA, I would start making runs now and call him a 4yo futurity horse.
If you want him to be a 5yo futurity horse, hold him until 12/1/15 and run him in the 2016 BFA. |

I'm telling you, this whole thing is freaking me out. I've never done this futurity thing, just rodeoed and jackpots. So many rules. I'm so afraid I'm gonna mess up. But I'm excited to try something new with babies I raised so we're give it a shot. |

Location: WI | Oh, I see you've already made the payments. You can enter now - UNLESS you want them to be eligible for futuries next year. I will say if you hold them, you will be at a disadvantage because all your competition started running 12/1/14. You should have entered the 2016 BFA. |

But if I start running on them competitively now, then I can't futurity on them next year. I want to go to Diamonds and Dirt and the Patriot at least. The plan is to futurity them as 5 year olds and if I've understood correctly, the BFA (or any run after December 1st, 2015) is the first competition run they can make. If I were to compete on them now, then no futurities next year. Right? |

| Only do exhibitions and you'll be fine! The futurity world is small and like a big family. Most people are friendly and willing to help you. Good luck! |
