Because it is a 2 year old :) Most young horses will do it. It takes a while for them to develop the control and skill to stay in the correct leads all the time. It could be a soreness thing but I really wouldnt consider that until they were older unless there were other things suggesting soreness as well.

Yup all of the above. He's a 2 yr old and they really don't know how to carry themselves yet. It's like a toddler learning to run. They lack coordination.

Buck Brannaman says he never worries about young ones that cross fire a lot, because they are the ones to always go on and make the best flying lead change horses. It will be a blessing once you start actually running the pattern!

I have a young one that does it to the right, two weeks ago, she did it all the time now not as much. I found that she would lope she was not carrying herself with her rear tipped to the outside of the center. When i lope her now i used outside leg and rein.

My three year old did this a lot and still does some but I can see her control getting better. :)

Like others have said, because he or she is young. If the horse continues to do it once he or she is older, I would be more concerned.

I have rode many young horses and crossfiring has never been a problem.

I will say body position is key

Thank you all. I didn't think it was a big deal for a 2 yr old to cross fire but when I picked her up from the trainer she acted like it was a very big deal. She sees the chiro next week just to make sure everything is good.
