I did not like the Super Sport because my horse got hot and overly sensitive.  The good news was that she returned to her old self quickly after I took her off of it.

My horse looked ok on the Ultium but I think it made him even hotter than usual. He looks better on rice bran and alfalfa pellets.

IMO if you can afford to feed ultium and you pay that much money for a bag then by golly you better not need any supplements with it. I've feed super sport and saw NO difference at all. I love ultium and will use it to put bloom on one that is really lacking when it comes in for training but can't afford it for the whole barn. Ultium is very energy dense if you aren't burning that energy then yes your horse will be "hotter" etc

I agree.. in heavy training I think a horse does better on it then ones that arent in training.. imho..but horses react differantly.. mine was worked everyday.. and still reacted like I said.. but he wasnt hot.. just nervy.. unfocused.. I think awhile back others had same experiences.. OP try it and see.. id certainly like it otherwise.. its a top of the line grain..

My horses also tend to be a bit hotter when feeding Ultium but there is nothing that gets one to bloom or look better. If you need to put weight on one or keep weight on a hard keeper it can't be beat. My appendix gelding is a hard keeper and when he is in work we feed him this. You don't have to always feed the full recommended amount either. We usually feed at half recommended and then just offer more premium hay or pasture, sometimes mix it in with a bit more beet pulp. Has always worked great for us. I think the high fat content and beet pulp base is what makes it so good. It also has a relatively low NSC.

100% agree! I've feed about eery fat and weight building or digestive conditioner/probiotic out there and ultium puts weight on horses quicker than anything else. It works better than adding oils or cool calories (even over their recommended doses).

what would you recommend for a horse like yours - nervy and unfocused? I currently feed him timothy pellets, renew gold and THE.

I had to go back to ultium from Renew Gold this week. I fed the RG for 90 days. At first my horses bloomed and looked great. But instead of shedding they actually started GROWING wirey like dead, dull, hair. Curry it off one day to a nice shine and it seemed like it grew back over night. I wormed my horses, had their teeth done, played with it and finally took them off.. Not sure why it works for so many and not all, I guess thats life. lol But mine have been on like 1.5 pounds of ultium for about a week and have bloomed and feel great.

I feed Super Sport and Total Equine. I added the Super Sport for feet support & energy about 5 months ago. I like what I have seen so far. Stamina is even better than it was and he's got more energy - which he needed. I've only ran him twice after he started on it - I've been working on pushing him - and he ran the fasted we have so far even with a long break. I'm looking forward to seeing how he works this year.

My mare looked better than she ever has when she was on Ultium. She is on the hotter side anyway, but I didn't notice it made her any moreso. I don't go as much now, and I just can't justify the price, but I would feed it again if I was hauling harder.

Fed Ultium for years. Actually had to add something to it to get "fire" to my horses, but mine werent race bred.
Worked well for my gelding when I was hauling hard. Never lost weight.
I currently mix it with beet pulp so I can mix my THE in.

I know 4 horses that are on the exact thing.. Ultium & super sport . Ultium works for sure ! I don't believe the super sport really does much though .. I think ultium alone wound give the same results .

my stud didnt get Hot on Ultuim but made him unfocused, spooky, nervy..

That explained my show horse as well, Hot doesn't really fit, but he was a goofy sucker until I took him off.

My mare wasn't hot on Ultium (she's already quirky, but it didn't change) but she didn't really like it. She gets ulcer-y easy and any type of sweet feed starts to irritate her after awhile so I just don't give her grain anymore, she just gets beet pulp/alfalfa pellets and she does fine with that.

I feed Ultium to an older gelding who is a dead head.  He's still a dead head on Ultium.  I tried Super Sport last summer on 2 horses.  I tried it all summer and never noticed a difference.  I'm saving my money.
