We have a new horse. Pulled her out of a killer lot and are going to take a chance on her. The one odd thing I noticed is most of the time she stands stretched out/camped out. I'm thinking sore back or loin area? Any other ideas? Thanks

How did you treat his ulcers since he had both?

I took my mare in yesterday that was doing this. Sand colic, luckily caught early. She is coming home tomorrow.

We just got her a few days ago. She is all beat to heck, poor thing. Had mud up over her knees. Taking a chance she will come around without costing an arm and a leg.

Like many on here, it may be some gut thing or kidney thing. If not, its probably in her feet.

This is what I was going to suggest.

I had a gelding doing this and he had an impacted cecum.

It could be PSSM - my mare did that and I switched to low starch, low sugar feed (Seminole Perform Safe) and no (or very little) coastal hay.  I haven't had the problem since the diet change.

She does seem incredibly muscle sore down her ribs and over her loin area. Who know what has happened to her. She is supposed to ride well but I am going to figure out what is bothering her before we get that far. Sweet mare not spooky. Let us hose her legs off and is used to being fly sprayed. She was someones horse at some point. She doesn't stand like a typical founder. I did worm her yesterday, she has a rough coat and she is thin.

Since you had her only a few days I'm kinda thinking she has a mild case of colic with all the changes that has happen to her, bought one out of the sale years ago and he was standing the way your mare sounds so I thought what the heck I gave him some banamine to see what would happen and he felt so much better after that.  And no more standing streched out.

My gelding did this and it was mild gas colic. I thought he was trying to pee but turns out just his way of trying to get comfortable from the tummy ache.

My horse does this when his hocks are starting to get sore or the bug are eating him up under his belly or in between his hind legs.

I had a mare that started doing that after I had been giving bute for pain from founder.....she ended up with ulcers.  I learned the hard way not to use bute on a daily basis no matter what your vet recommends.
