When using a poultice, how do you prefer to wrap the leg?
I've heard to apply the poultice, apply brown butcher type paper, and then wrap either in cotton track bandages, or in no bows. I've also heard don't wrap, use padded wraps, and to put ice boots on top...
I cold hose for a good 5 minutes but heard it isn't enough. So i picked out a poultice to try but have no idea which method to use for wrapping and i'd hate to wrap it wrong or do something to make the poultice less effective.
Opinions?
How do you wrap up a leg after a workout? And when do you wash it off?

I normally don't wrap it.

I will cold hose off the residue or curry it off the next morning.  ETA I have left it on longer with no issues (unwrapped only)

I usually cold hose and then ice. I find the legs get colder and stay colder longer if I hose them down first. I only poultice if they had a super hard workout or at competitions. Other than that I will wrap them after the icing and put sore no more on. Or I give them a linament bath. When I have used poultice you curry comb it off or brush it off. If you get it wet, it will just get messy and take forever to get off.

Thank you all.
Glad I haven't used it yet.
I can just see me out there trying to hose it off and ending up with a huge mess in my wash area. LOL!

I apply poultice, soak the brown paper bag in cold water, wrap the bag around the poultice, cotton wrap, and then standing wraps. leave on no longer than 12 hours. I usually only wrap if we are at a multi day race and having to stay stalled. Otherwise, they get irrigated, liniment and turned out.

Wanted to note, I won't be riding for a while because I am due in July for my first baby. But I have started to lunge him more and work him off the ground. However the ground is really really hard even after I had my SO dug it up.
Any suggestions for cushion while he's long trotting with the surcingle?
I'd hate to walk outside one day to a sore leg or something so I'm guessing the poultice will help to draw the heat out to prevent that?

I don't wrap. It causes heat buildup. Had a multiple time NFR qualifier ask my why I didn't wrap my horses legs and I said because it traps heat and she replied "GOOD, because I don't for that exact same reason either!" Just hosing a leg is the best. I personally don't believe in poultice, but am a fan of liniments.

I usually SNM poultice after without wrapping. Although my mare likes the taste and licks it off her front legs, so if shes run a ton that weekend (back to back shows) i will wrap her fronts. Do SNM, then wet paper bag, then no bow wraps and then bandages. If not hard i usually just rub down with SNM gel
