| I have a 13 year old gelding who's bleeding through 5cc's of lasixs and 6cc's of kred 2 hours out. He's on bluebonnet omega force and I go to the best vet in Texas (Brazos Valley) and they scoped him at the end of march said there was a little bit of blood in his lungs but other than that they looked fine. Had blood work done looked fine! Had a fecal check fine! Just can't get the bleeding under control. Ive tried all the oxygen products, flair nasal strips, aculife patches, lung aid, and just started him on the THE pulmonez! Hopefully that works. We're taking three months off to rest and starting back in June. Really frustrated and hoping I don't have to retire him. Any more suggestions would be great. Any track vets in Texas?

Look up the benefits of Shephards purse, it heals tissue I used it on a bleeder it works for me. |

Location: Texas | I agree with giving it farther out. I am currently dealing with a bleeder and was recently advised to give the Lasix longer to work. 4 hours IV. |

Location: Iowa | I have had a couple bleeders in my time. I would try the IV lasix farther out and maybe bump up the dosage. Also, when you are able to give him some time off try using Single Immortal and Red Lung. Your vet will need to order it. I gave mine a few weeks off after starting her on these herbs and I have yet to give a doasge of lasix. (And my mare bleed through 6cc of laxis once before starting the herbs) Good Luck! | Like others have said you will have to "experiment" with the timing. We run horses on the track and the trainer gives 2 cc IV 4 hrs out and 2cc IM 2hrs out.
My personal horse I give 3 cc IV 2 and 1/2 to 3 hrs out and it works fine for him. 4 hours out and he is too lethargic. It took a me awhile to figure out the timing.
I had a bad bleeder and ran her on 10 cc per vet 3 hrs out.
I keep electrolyte paste in my trailer to give to them once I've gotten their heart rate back down after running. Usually about 5 minutes |

My vet told me it takes K-red 4 hours IV min to work properly - plus you can give it the night before (half dose of your run dose) and the day of the run to be more effective
This is what I am doing and I have a bad bleeder
First I gave him 2 months off after his last bleed to make sure he was healed
then I got him scoped to rule out infection, you may need to have a trachea wash done
This is what my vet and I finally decided on and it works - mine would cough up blood after running so I was about to retire him
5cc lasix iv - 3 hours out
5cc kred iv - 4 hours out
airpower - 1 hour out
electrolytes paste right before I get on to warm up
My vet is pushing me to get a neubilizer as well to use on him - I am currently debating but will probably end up getting one as I have a bleeder and one with allergies

Location: Cap'n Joan Rotgut.....alberta | Thats the thing with bleeders..they are work and a lot of ppl dont want to deal with that.....not surs why because once u get doing it you find it isnt that bad to manage one.....and i wasnt implying that you dont want to deal with it...i have friends that think its SUCH a hassle to give a needle a few hours out.....good luck....m |

Location: Opelousas, LA | I have had good luck giving 5-10 ccs magnesium sulfate 500mgs/mL along with the K-red about 4-6 hours out, you can also give the same combo the night before, about 24 hours out. The mag can quiet them a little also so if you have a super laid back horse they may not fire as hard on it. |

Location: Central Texas | Try Silver Lining Herbs NoLasix. I used 3 mL's of Lasic 2-3 hours our and my horse would not run. He didn't bleed, but it was because he was running a second or more slower than normal. I used the SLH for 60 days and it helped greatly. |

Location: South Central Florida | DAC Race formula is the only suppliment that really worked for us. When we give lasix, I ddo 2.5 to 3 yours out iv and Animal Element paste stuff 45 min to an hour before run. DAC she gets daily. Been scoped and no bleeding. This mare only bled out 2 times but often bled internally. |

Location: newalla,Ok. | I will only use Mohair girths and leather off billets and latigos on my bleeders. Since their lungs expand during a run I don't want any type of constriction interferring and the Mohair and leather have a little give to them. |

| Thank you all so much for the wonderful input!! Hopefully when we get back going his lungs will be completely healed.. Would hate to have to retire him.. I'm going to also start him on the equi-resp to see if that helps any. Thank you so much once again! |
