| Adequan 7 shot series 2x a year if the horse is currently sound. If has issues, or slight issues, adequan series 2x a year with pentosan monthly injections. They cant poop out shots given in the muscle, but feed throughs they can. :) |

| Well I'm a non believer in oral joint supplements and i'm with flit on adequan and I'll recommend Osphos its proving to be the fountain of youth for our older horses, neither of which have navicular. But i'm really interested in Matrix and the Nouvelle Cur Ost supplements...I'm intrigued by the science behind them. I have cutter friends that are just crazy over them and swear improvement. They sure are pricey tho, so I dunno if I'll ever try them. Maybe I should make a separate post asking about them |

| I was a non-believer in oral supplements for years until I had a horse that needed some support for a few issues but is a bear to give shots to and don't even think about sticking a needle in a joint! Had to do something, so tried a supplement and it has worked great on this horse. I still believe that 90% of supplements are a waste of money, but am glad I found something that worked on this horse. Moral of the story, sometimes it is good to try something that you previously thought was nonsense lol |

| Here is the way I look at it. I know there are people who swear that this or that oral supplement work. THey probably do at some level.. But I am not made of money and most joint supplements out there are about 60-100+ bucks a month for ONE HORSE . Well, my goofy horses like to flip their grain buckets up and blow their noses when they eat and I see powders all shoot into the air! LOL Two adequan loading doses a year works out to 46.00 a month. Substantial savings over something that " Might" work. |

Totally agree, and most times I would do injectable over feed through (actually EVERY time except for this horse) Seems like there is always that one exception tho haha |

Agree.......many swear by them but studies show that the horse cannot absorb the ingredients that are supposed to be the help for the joints..........so for me it is a waste of money.......

| Prevacox. It's for dogs, but 1/4 tablet for a horse makes them totally new. Plus it's not too expensive. You have to get it from a vet. |

| My mare is on Formula 1 Blue label and monthly Pentosan. She has been on Pentosan since last June and I started Noni in November. She is feeling and working good. |

This is a joint supplement? I give Previcox to one of my other horses who may or may not have navicular--X-rays inconclusive. He has never been lame but he stumbles. One vet says toe pain. One feet says heel pain. I thought Previcox was a pain reliever? We switched him from Bute to the Previcox because I was concerned about him being on Bute for too long. And by the way, we're on the second bottle and he still stumbles. |

It never occurred to me to use Adequan. I actually give a monthly shot of the generic form to another horse of mine who had been going down on his back end once in a while. We couldn't find anything wrong so the vet said this couldn't hurt, it would "lubricate" all the joints. So I've been giving him that for about a year. I will ask her about this for my new horse.
And what is Pentosan? I know I've heard of it mentioned many times before but I don't know what it is.
This new horse doesn't have any problems. I just want to try to keep it that way if at all possible! |

| Pentosan is really designed for horses that already have some arthritis. I would stick to adequan. |
