I'm starting (well, trying to) my gelding on T.H.E. Muscle Mass. It's got a very strong smell and when I tried to give it to him today he sniffed it and turned his nose up at it. What do you do to get them to eat their supplements? Anything special you add to mask the smell or taste? Any help is appreciated! Thanks! :)

For my picky gelding, I just mix his grain with a little water. He eats his THE like a champ that way!

I can put anything in with soaked beet pulp and my boys will eat it.

My gelding gave me grief the first day he was on THE.  Started adding soaked hay cubes and he ate it all up.  Eventually stopped the cubes and he still ate everything.  These days I add a couple pumps of Healthy Coat and he doesn't leave anything behind.

I have personally spritzed it with water from a water bottle if they aren't too picky and just leaving a little bit at the bottom of the bucket. If they get soaked feed of any kind I have never had one even notice THE added to it. I have a few geldings that come and go from pasture so they aren't really used to it. For them I just leave it in their feeder and they eat it better the next day. I have 3 that are kept in fairly often and they lick the tub clean and then go and check each others to see if they can lick theirs too once I turn them in together.

I have had people tell me they have had good luck with applesauce or yogurt and worst case scenario, Bob can add a flavor to it that most horses love. I have only had one customer go that route so far.

Thanks everyone! I'll try wetting his feed down a little tomorrow and see if that helps. If not, I'll try some of the other suggestions :) He's not usually a very picky eater so hopefully that'll do the trick.

I mix mine with a cup of grain and then mix with some water to wet it down. My friend had the pickiest horse ever and she would mix a little bit of pancake syrup in with his.

I just added a tiny drizzle of canola oil to mine and she eats it up.

Red Cell or beet pulp is what we use.

i started mixing mine with some sweet feed. At first it was a 1/4 can of the sweet feed (I used omolene 200, so not terribly hot but still sticky) with the supps and then the other 3/4 our regular pellet. Found out he's allergic to the grass roughage base in the pellet, so he's getting 100% omolene right now and I'm waiting on triple crown to come in since it doesn't have any of his allergens in it - he's been licking his wooden feeder clean to the point of maybe chewing on the bottom a little lol!

For mine I mix the THE stuff with healthy coat, but if that's not an option or I'm out of healthy coat I will mix with a little ACV or pancake syrup.

My picky mare wouldn't touch her Platinum at first.  I left it there overnight and it was gone the next day, and eventually after 3 days she would eat it right away.

I had issues with mine eating her herbs until I started putting the ACV with Mothers in it over it. Now no problems.

Start with very small serving of supplement. Let then get used to it, then build up to proper amount

I will religiously use applesauce now to get my boys to eat something they don't like. I have a horse on a bute regimen and instead of fighting with him about pumping it in his mouth, mix the bute and a spoon of applesauce and blob it on his grain, my gelding almost literally vacuums it up!
