| My grandma had two Collie's, both just about two years old. The first one started walking bad, like his back end and front end didn't work together, he would try and come straight to you and walk in almost a zig zag because his back end (hips) were not working right, went on for about a month. This progressed and his back end was much lower and he could barely walk. Vet said he must have been hit by a car and had brain damage, gave him anti-inflamitory pills. No appetite, lost weight rapidly, and they found him halfway in his dog house, completely unable to move, and was put down. Her remaining dog was born with hip-dysplasia, and has always walked a tiny bit funny, but yesterday, they found him laying in the yard, before that he showed absolutely no symptoms, Now he couldn't even get up, had to carry him to a dog bed. He tries to get up, but his back legs are stiff, he can move, but when he tries to sit up, his front legs are stiff too, and he just slides back down. His whole body is shaking badly, taking him to the vet today, but they'll probably say the same thing about him. It's heartbreaking for my grandma, she loves her dogs, she was so sad when the first one dies, but now only four days later she might lose the second. No rat poison anywhere around, they haven't been around any other dogs, maybe it's genetic, because they're both from the same litter. The vet in our area is not much help, and we can't take him an hour away and spend hundreds of dollars just to have them say he needs put down. Absolutely cannot figure theis out!! I saw something about Canine dysautonomia, could that be it? It says the symptoms are diarrhea and puking, but there's none of that. http://www.kcrg.com/subject/news/canine-dysautonomia-confirmed-in-i... Any help or prayers would be greatly appreciated. |

| They feed the cheap stuff from the local coop. They just got home from the vet and they said he just has Hip Dysplasia, and put him on aspirin. Why would he go from being fine to not able to move in a day? He's has Hip Dysplasia his whole life. Just about makes me sick. :( |

Location: North Dakota | Definitely check him for ticks RIGHT NOW, if there are any imbedded close to his spine, it could be causing his symptoms too "tick bite paralysis" almost immediate relief for the dog.
Could be liver/kidney issues, diabetes. They become so weak or toxic it takes too much effort to stand (think of an old person) animal diseases seem to sneak up on us. |

****! Did they xray him? I think I'd get a different opinion, while I know aspirin 'Might" help, there are better things for arthritic dogs that "do" help. |

Location: Kansas | This exact thing happened to my friend's Corgi here in eastern Kansas a couple of weeks ago. I went to the vet with her and the vet was stumped and just advised my friend to put her down. Very sad.
Wishing your grandma luck with her dog! |

Location: Where you need a paddle... Oregon! | Had this happen when our mini-aussie ate some poo from a day that I dewormed. It took me a lot of convincing to get the vet to consider that I was right and I had to send him documentation and information I got from the internet. He is a good large animal vet, but said he had never heard of this happening. |

Location: The best kept secret in TX | Not trying to be mean but I don't understand the owners "Not wanting to spend money" when the dog is clearly in distress....
I understand not having the money at all because i've been there before and it sucks. But not wanting to spend the money is just mean to the dog in my opinion...
I would be getting the dog more than just asprin.... Asprin isn't going to do much but make the owner feel better about not getting the dog a real pain medication.....
That's like breaking your femur and being told to just keep ice on it..... Praying for the pup |
