Location: North Dakota | Some of the playdays in my area used to have 1/4 mile races. At the time, I didn't have a horse fast enough to enter. Now I wish there were some around! It looked like a blast.
I would totally enter. |

Location: Four Corners Colorado | I was wondering if they could use it as an alternate way to get barrel horses a S.I. or earn a R.O.M. with out having to deal with all the stress and expence of sending their horses to the track.

Location: North Dakota | Some people in SD are thinking about getting something like that put together. I would LOVE to enter my gelding. He can flat out fly! I have raced him against other 1D barrel horses and even after giving them a big head start before letting him go we flew by them like they were standing still. He makes my eyes water. |

| I would be too chicken to enter but I think it would be fun to watch. I bet some of the horses would love it too, I have a gelding that when ever trail riding always has to be in the lead, will not let another horse ahead of him. He is a pain in the rear to pony because he is always trying to get out front. It would be interesting to see which horses have a competitive spirit like that or if they would even catch on that they are in a race. |

Location: Mississippi | My gelding would absolutely LOVE this! I keep saying that I wish we had a track nearby so that I could let him stretch out...he can fly and he loves to open up. I think it's a great idea! |

Location: Southern Wisconsin | You never know what can happen on the flat. A 3D horse won it last year. My mom rode my sister ZZD mare and won the 2D. It was a good time. They have plenty of room to get slowly whoaed up. :) |

| I am probably going to be the only one here to say this but no, I would not enter my horse. There is a lot of risk involved in just running barrels, I wouldn't want to risk crippling my good horse on a straight stretch bragging contest. Maybe if I had something I really didn't feel was worth a whole lot but I knew could haul the mail, maybe then but probably not. I wouldn't want to even enter a young horse in this. Their minds are so fragile, why push anymore than you have to?
Maybe I spent too long getting my horse off the track to where he could ride by another horse without getting chargy and strong or from grabbing his ass and trying to run every time something tried to pass him on the rail.
ETA: I remember watching an interview with Sherry Cervi a while ago. She said when she was a kid she ran her pony all the time. Her dad finally told her that horses are like a pack of cigarettes. They only have some many runs before their gone.
I would attribute this to that as well. For every time you run down that stretch, that is one run you burned up out of the "pack".

Location: Montana | I would totally do it! That would be SO MUCH FUN!!! My mare, though she is little, is fast as can be in a straight way and she doesn't like other horses to get ahead of her, so she would try with ALL her might to win. I wish we would have something like that here...maybe if we go to some omoksees, they have things like that... |

| Don't know if I'd have the nerve to enter or not but it would be interesting to see who won. Like another poster said, it wouldn't necessarily the the fastest one around the barrels. BUT I can only think of 1 arena around here with a track. |

I totally agree. My trainer and I were just talking about how hard it is on them running down the track. When they ran the quarters at LA Downs, about 1/3 of the horses came out limping before the race. I have worked too hard the get the "track" out of two of mine. The first time someone's horse breaks down they are going to be saying I wish I hadn't done that. This happens more often then you think. I could race mine on the track because they certainly have the talent but I barrel race because that is the discipline that I enjoy. |

Horses were well warmed up. Me and my horse did great. My current set of horses- who knows. Looks like fun either way. |
