| Is it normal for a shoer to use the same shoes as the time before when they are reset or should htey use new shoes each time? I have mine reset about every 7 weeks. Last time he said the shoes weren't wore out so used the same ones? Thoughts or Advice? Thanks! |

| It used to be normal, especially if the shoe wasn't worn down, now days they seem to change them every time. They would charge you 65 to shoe, 55 to reset... Doesn't bother me if they reset with the same shoe, if it's not worn uneven, but now days they charge the same price(new shoe or not) so I would rather get a new shoe if I'm not going to get a few bucks off.

Location: North Dakota | We reuse them sometimes. I have my horses done every 6 weeks so the one that wears shoes might just have them reset for a visit or 2 before we put new ones on. |

Location: Southern Indiana | We will use the same set of steel shoes for nearly a year before they get wore down. I don't understand why farriers would want to reshape a set of shoes every time. Aluminum can usually be reset once.
I know a farrier who will use a new set everytime and I'm pretty sure it's so he can get money at the scrap yard. |

| Depends on the wear of the shoes, nail holes, etc. A re-set SHOULD be cheaper by a bit. |

Location: North Dakota | My farrier sometimes re-uses the shoes, as long as they are in good condition. It save him (and me) time for reshaping a new set.
I have no problem with it. |

That's why it is called a RESET.... I always deducted the price of the shoes on a reset... The shoe does have to be reshaped to some degree on a reset... and he can't reuse the nails (they ain't cheap either)... |

Ditto. If they are using the same shoe, I want a discount!! |

Location: God's country...aka TEXAS | My husband is a farrier. He uses new shoes every re-set. He would rather do that than spend the time to clean them off etc. And no, he doesn't do it to take them to the scrap yard for money. We have a whole barn-ful of used shoes...lol |

Location: Alberta, Canada | My farrier gives me the option. I put new ones on every time but that's just me. I also collect all the used ones and we make hooks n stuff for the barn out of them :) |
