I have a mare that I recently purchased. She is sweet and great and all that. Well I am not a bloodline guru. She isn't anything trendy like FG, FWF, or anything like that. I know she has old lines, I was wondering what you guys could tell me about them. Thanks in advance.

The only thing I found that I have really heard of is King in gen 4 :) but I'm sure she is a nice mare and that is what counts. I would kind of guess she came from an old time breeding program. There is a reason to how she is bred, as it is all very similar. I would venture to guess she came of a using ranch type breeding program.
4 generations back is Monsieur Joe

Thanks, I was guessing that she was bred more for using than anything. Bored at work and just digging on her pedigree. LOL!! All I can find is the breeder runs in the Midwest NCHA shows. I'm fine with not being trendy, mainly want something that isn't going to try and kill me is the important thing to me. LOL!!

I've had friends with sons/daughters of the best out there and they are crazier than an outhouse rat. So they just keep em and feed em. I would always rather have one that I enjoy.

Willowbrook Farms in PA had the Bill Cody lines. Their advertisement was on the back cover of the QH Journal EVERY month for years. As much as that cost, I am very sure that they had very nice horses.

If you find someone into foundation bloodlines or one of the associations computer driven identifiers .... I think your mare will go 100% old foundation bulldog quarter horses.

Little known fact .. there were two named Poco Bueno and Poco Bueno 1 is the old not famous one and Old Taylor was a full brother to the famous Poco Bueno.

If you look at the few pictures that allbreed has of her ancestors... you will see they are wide enough between the front legs to drive a truck thru and their necks are short and set deep into their chest which prevents them from lowering their heads to get down in the dirt to cut a cow ... they were body blocking style cutters ... until Doc Bar came along put a longer neck and narrowed up the front end which changed the style of cutting to getting down in the dirt ... lol

I think you will find this mare came from a foundation breeder or from Canada where a lot of this old bulldog stuff is still hiding out. ... They are generally called cold blooded due to the fact they don't get upset about many things and can take a lot of cowboying type treatment. Typically good family horses.

In 3 generations ... it goes back to 1945 ... that is 70 years ... with no signs of THREE BARS... who had the most affect on these old bloodlines ...

If you go to breed her ... I would go roping horse or this working cow horse stallion ...
A SHINER NAMED SIOUX ....
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hRj0uKMfqQ&list=PLBD2F1D353B19E463

With chute fees etc .. you will be looking at $2000 breeding fee ....... there was a bidding war between two jillionaires at Carol Rose's dispersal and he sold for $880k or 885k ......

Check their different incentive pkgs .. like this one ..
Barrel Racing:
?Novice
?Amateur
?Open
1.Certified Aaron Ranch horse winning the AQHA World Championship title will receive $5,000
2.Any certified Aaron Ranch Horse competing in this event finishing in the top 10 will receive $1,000
?Youth ?1st place Aaron ranch buckle and eligibility for aaron ranch college scholarship funds.
?Top ten qualifying participants will be eligible for aaron ranch scholarship fund.

HAVE FUN ... SHE IS A UNIQUE MARE WITH NO 3 BARS IN HER PEDIGREE ..

My guess is that the majority of her ancestors were used on the big ranches; hence the reason we don't recognize many names. If you go a little farther back you'll find the Waggoner Ranch, the Triangle Ranch, and the Burnett Ranch. You'll also find Bert, Oklahoma Star, Osage Bob, Joe Hancock, Joe Reed, Leo San, Poco Champ (full brother to Poco Lena) along with King. And BHUSA, I hate to contradict you, but you'll find Three Bars through Breeze Bar back there, too. So yes, you had lots of cow but you also had plenty of run (as in, fast enough to CATCH a cow, lol.)

She should make you a really nice mare- good luck with her!

You guys make me smile ...

When you go back 8 generations to find 3Bars like it would make a difference
in what you see 59 years later ... just to take a shot at me .. lol ...

I just got rid of a grandson of DFC with Easily Smashed on the papers on the bottom side. Thought he would work out, but he was nuttier than a fruit cake. So yeah, something that I can enjoy and that isn't going to try an kill me is a nice change. LOL!!

Update...I took this mare to a local saddle club show, just to see what she would do and if she had any triggers that set her off. Nope..not a one. Which is great, as I have buckets full of horse baggage right not. Long story. And on top of it, she laid out a pretty pattern and can flat out fly. Now just to find the perfect bit that will work with her. But that'll just take some time. Thanks for the information on pedigree, I knew she was foundation, but just wasn't sure about much else. And yes I am impressed that there isn't any Three Bars up close on her pedigree. In this day and age that's kind of impressive. I think anyway.
