$$$ bills to blow out the exhaust

seriously though. I'm too dang poor to think of buying a brand new truck and I am guessing $40k is about what a new one is going to cost now. With the depreciation as soon as you drive off the lot, the lack of needing one like that and the emissions and new issues the new ones have, we have kind of kept to low mile used vehicles.

Well holy crapola! They are getting up there!
I'm no truck expert. We have ours because my husband loves that year of Dodge due to the engine. Gets great fuel mileage. Ours is a 2000 Dodge 3/4 ton. I can't remember what we paid. It has 130,000 now so should last a lot longer.

I would think for $40k you could get a pretty dang nice truck though.

I would expect a brand new one! LOL. One place in Idaho we were looking at had brand new 2015 Ram 3500 pickups, crew cab with the Cummins and automatic and long box in good colors, like red and blue, for VERY close to that price (military discount price was $38,995, and I think our price was about a $1000 more than that...we didn't buy it because we didn't need it and couldn't afford one, LOL).  If you are set on getting all the fancy stuff like leather, then not a new one, but leather doesn't make it pull or haul different.

You can buy you a 3500 dodge ram dually under $40k with SLT, automatic, cummins engine, towing pkg at BONHAM CHRYSLER in Bonham Tx ... they run an ad each week in a community news paper thingy ... if you want to see the ads ... msg me and when the new one comes in Wednesday mail .. i will scan and send to you..

Do not fall for the econoboost diesel ... this year i am told dodge trucks do not have the HEP crap to add to the fuel ...

Dealers can sell each other's trucks without a problem or if you were to order one .. have it shipped to you local straight from the factory... Do your shopping on Sunday and take a picture of the window sticker so you know exactly what is on the truck and the vin number .. if you talk to Bonham ... they can sell you that truck at their lower price ..

I have never shopped for one as I stated above. The new ones are not as good as the older ones. Prettier and may ride better, but they just don't have an engine we want right now. My husband hauls cattle with a Semi for a living so he is pretty savvy with the diesel engines. Me, as long as they will start and pull my trailer, I am golden.

I know, I know.... it just made me laugh because we looked at new ones recently and my jaw dropped, I didn't mean for it to come across mean or anything. I totally agree about the older vehicles. Our one ton is a 2000 model. I'm waiting for the 2011s to come down into my price range because that's the first year they put a/c in the seats and since I found out that was an option, it's on my list of must-haves.

Can't really answer this question accurately because there are so many variables that determine price. If you're asking this question because $40k is your budget for a truck, there are lots of websites that will let you search their inventory by price. I'd suggest doing that to get an idea of what your money can buy, then narrow it down to years, engines, options, etc and start asking specific questions about those if need be.

My brother found our dodge 3500 2wd dually crew cab for around $30k with like 12k miles on it.  I'd expect a gently used pickup withow miles for $40k.  New they are around $60k these days.

The book on my 2003 Dodge 1-ton diesel with leather is STILL $30,000 - I know as I borrowed against it to pay for my last horse! LOL! It only has 54,000 miles on it though but still, this is a TWELVE year old truck still worth that. I bought it new and it usually stays hooked to the trailer.

We just bought a 2012 F250 Lariat Powerstroke diesel 4x4 crew cab with ALL the bells and whistles with 45K miles on it and paid about $40,000.

We are on the east coast, so not sure if that matters. However, I was adamant that we would get a 2011 or newer, 4x4, diesel with less than 100k on it, and we searched for 6 months and found 2. We had to have this one shipped to us. They are hard to come by because after so many bad years of diesels with Fords, no one wants to let go of them.

We just bought a 2014 GMC 2500 (gas) with only 8,000 miles on it. Loaded with heated/cooled seats, satelitte radio, navigation, TV in the rear, bed liner, and lots of other fancy extras. And we paid about $40,000. It was a steal of a deal in my opinion!! We went out of state to get it, because anything around here was much more expensive.

It just depends on what you want.  You can find a base level crew cab diesel dodge dually for about $38k - brand new.
They aren't all 60k........if you can live with out nav, leather seat, etc.
Just shop a bit.  I'd rather have one with less miles and fewer options.  As far as referring to blue book value on your truck, it doesn't mean much of anything.  A dealership isn't going to write you a check for that at trade in.

We've been truck shopping lately, and I am looking for a diesel with 4 doors and leather.  I was trying to stay under $30k, but to get anything "newer" (2008) I seem to be getting more into the $35k range.

Not sure if I can help but when I was looking at cars I went to the website truecar.com and it gives you a value of the car you are looking at. It does have trucks on there. Hope it will help you or at least give you an idea.
